He also encouraged people to join in on the viral DIY wall-panelling trend, claiming it instantly makes a room look and feel more expensive.

Known online as @jordansamsondesign, he regularly shares interior design and home transformation tips with his 75,300 followers.

In a new TikTok reel, he said: “Four ways to make your home look more expensive.

“When I think of opulent homes, my first thought is always beautiful, custom millwork.

“So naturally my first tip is adding wall panelling. This can give your home an expensive custom look, and depending on the material, can actually be quite affordable.

“Board and batten is a popular and affordable option that is fairly easy to DIY, and adds so much dimension and interest to your space.”

His next tip was not to overlook small details, like your light switches.

He continued: “Next in an often overlooked aspect of home decor is small details like switch plate covers.

“Upgrading them to a metal or decorative cover can make a big difference in how polished your home looks.

“And on the same vein, try upgrading your dated air vents for a steel or even a seamless custom cover.”

Tip number three was to stray away from bog-standard white skirting boards and door frames.

He added: “Painting your trim and doors a contrasting colour is a simple and effective way to make your home look more custom and expensive.

“If you already have white walls, a simple grey or charcoal paint will add some subtle drama without breaking the bank.

“And finally is lighting. Lighting can truly make or break the ambience of a room.

“Upgrading your dated, overhead lighting will make a huge difference in the overall look and feel of your home.

“Investing in two to three sources for each room, with a combination of overhead lighting, table lamps and floor lamps will create a layered and cozy atmosphere that no image or voiceover can do justice.

“You just need to trust me and feel it for yourself to truly appreciate the power of good lighting.”
