Carey Mulligan is paying tribute to Helen McCrory, who passed away last week at the age of 52.
The 35-year-old Promising Young Woman star won the Independent Spirit Award for best female lead on Thursday (April 22) and dedicated her win to Helen, per People.
“I just want to dedicate this award to a true independent spirit and actress that I have looked up to and will continue to look up to for the rest of my career: Helen McCrory. Thank you to her for everything she gave us,” Carey said.
Carey also took a moment to recognize her fellow nominees, adding, “I’m shocked and in awe and honored to be in this group of extraordinary women and I’m so floored by each and every one of their performances.”
She was nominated alongside Viola Davis (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), Nicole Beharie (Miss Juneteenth), Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Sidney Flanigan (Never Rarely Sometimes Always) and Julia Garner (The Assistant).
Carey concluded by thanking director Emerald Fennell and the cast and crew who worked on Promising Young Woman.
