Catherine Zeta-Jones’ wedding photos clearly aren’t taking pride of place above the fireplace – as the actress admits she’s only just seen the snaps for the first time.
The Mask of Zorro star married Hollywood icon Michael Douglas in 2000 at New York’s famous Plaza Hotel with A-list guests including Brad Pitt, Sean Connery and Michael Caine.
It was reported at the time that the lavish ceremony cost an estimated £1.5 million and the happy couple were said to have signed a £1 million deal with OK! magazine to release the photos exclusively.
Well you’d expect Catherine, 50, to put the photos in special frames after reportedly signing the eye-watering fee, but apparently checking her wedding snaps hasn’t been a priority over the past two decades.
‘I looked at the proofs and that was it – I never made an album,’ Catherine said according to the Mail on Sunday.
‘The photographer got in touch recently, so about three weeks ago I got to see all my wedding photographs.’
Recalling their special day, Catherine revealed that she partied around the piano until 6am with their wedding guests.
When the Welsh actress asked where the piano player had gone, someone replied: ‘He’s gone home, Mrs Douglas, it’s 6am!’
Sounds like a great time was had.
Catherine added: ‘I didn’t know what time it was. I couldn’t tell you it was daylight outside – it was like Vegas. I got on the piano!’
The couple’s wedding photos were shrouded in controversy as Hello! magazine reportedly took photos secretly despite OK!’s exclusive deal. Following a High Court battle during which Catherine gave evidence, Hello paid out more than £1 million.
In 2017, Catherine posted a photo from their wedding day on Instagram to mark their 17th wedding anniversary and wrote in the caption: ‘17 years ago today, I said “I do” to my best friend and father of our two and a half month old son.
‘Thought it could never get better than that day, but it did. Happy anniversary darling, Michael. With you, in my life, and Dylan and Carys, every day could be a twelve hour fantastic party at the Plaza in New York. Love you. #love #lovestrong [sic].’
Catherine and Michael, 75, are one of Hollywood’s longest-lasting couples but have endured their trials and tribulations.
The pair split in 2013 but did not start divorce proceedings despite living apart. However, they reconciled in 2014 and have been going strong ever since.
They are parents to son Dylan, 19, and daughter Carys, 16, while Michael has other children from previous relationships.
