Chris Hughes has jumped to his ex-girlfriend Jesy Nelson’s defence after she was criticised by Katie Hopkins over her social media photos.
Our hearts were broken last month when it emerged Little Mix singer Jesy had split from ex Love Island star Chris after more than a year of dating.
But clearly there’s still respect between them as Chris has praised Jesy’s ‘beauty’ while hitting back at Hopkins, who accused the pop star of being ‘insincere’.
Chris, 27, responded: ‘How about don’t be a b***h your whole life and let that person live. You tried it once years back, and it affected her mentally, just don’t be that a******e.
‘She has strength, she has beauty, and she has a heart that only you could dream of having.’
In reference to Jesy’s Instagram posts, Hopkins had earlier tweeted: ‘These desperate daily pics are showing that contrivance of a documentary to be darn insincere.
‘Girls. Be better than this. Beauty is in strength, not weakness that needs validating daily.’
In recent weeks, Jesy, 28, has been slaying her Instagram photos with stunning snaps of her bikini body and toned abs.
Last September, the Break Up Song singer released the BBC One documentary Odd One Out, which documented her battle with social media bullying. It was widely praised for tackling the upsetting issue and won a National Television Award in January.
However, one scene revisits a tweet sent by Hopkins about Jesy’s body after Little Mix’s performance on The X Factor in 2013.
In April, it was reported that Chris and Jesy had called time on their relationship after 16 months.
Sources told Metro.co.uk the pair both came to the mutual agreement the relationship had ‘run its course’ and there was no animosity involved in the split. They were said to have felt good about remaining friends following the breakup.
Insiders had previously told The Sun: ‘Jesy and Chris split up a couple of weeks ago. It was all very amicable and they’re still really good friends.
‘They had a chat on the phone about their relationship and both agreed that it felt like it had run its course – they’re both absolutely fine.’
