Here’s who is leading the 2020 Billboard nominations

With so many amazing performers nominated for Billboard awards this year, it’s hard to imagine who might lead the nomination count. Billie Eilish? Khalid? You’re getting hotter. Those talents are nipping at the heels of the singer who is the most-nominated star at this year’s show. And he is none other than Post Malone, according to Billboard. The tattooed phenom is nominated in an astonishing 15 categories for a total of 16 nominations. Among the categories Post Malone is nominated in are Top Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Hot 100 Artist.

Lil Nas X is the second most-nominated artist this year with 13 nods, according to Billboard. Both Billie Eilish and Khalid follow closely behind with 12, and Lizzo has 11. Interestingly, even though the awards show was postponed from its original air date of April 29 due to COVID-19 restrictions — it is now set to air on Wednesday, October 14 — the chart period the awards are based on remains the same: March 23, 2019 through March 14, 2020. A statement from the Billboard Music Awards said, “The original eligibility period will remain intact to recognize and honor the chart-topping artists and musical successes achieved and to maintain consistent tracking periods for future shows.”

Post Malone's nominations come from two different albums

Can we just acknowledge that Post Malone is only 25 years old — and he leads nominations among a sea of talented performers? Okay, moving on, the immensely talented star is actually nominated this year for his work on two albums: Hollywood’s Bleeding — which the insanely popular song “Circles” is on — and for “Sunflower,” a song on the soundtrack of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (via Fox News).

Meanwhile, he will have some tough competition in the top categories in which he’s nominated. Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, and Khalid are also nominated for Top Artist. Top Male Artist nominees include Lil Nas X and Khalid — both are also nominated for Top Hot 100 Artist along with Post Malone. Other nominations for Post Malone include Top Streaming Songs Artist and Top Rap Male Artist. We’ll all see what happens on October 14. Here’s wishing Post Malone the best of luck!
