Jason Donovan admits Kylie doesn’t know about Dancing On Ice despite their ‘connection’

Dancing on Ice: Jason Donovan discusses show with Lorraine

Singer and actor Jason Donovan is taking part in the 2021 series of Dancing On Ice. Asked if his former Neighbours co-star and ex-girlfriend Kylie Minogue had wished him luck, the reality star admitted he didn’t know if she was even aware he was taking part in the ice-skating competition.

“I don’t know whether she knows I’m doing it. She’s very busy with her record at the moment,” Jason said in a new interview.

Talking about their close connection, he went on to add: “We’ll always have a connection and we always pick up where we left off.

“We share something very unique.

“I don’t think there is a day that goes by that we don’t hear each other’s names!” he told this week’s OK! magazine.

Kylie played Jason’s love interest in Australian soap opera Neighbours in the late 1980s.

Their characters Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell eventually got married in one of the show’s most watched episodes ever.

The year after their wedding, Kylie quit the soap to concentrate on her singing career.

Jason left the following year and also pursued music success.

In 1988, while Jason was still on the show, the pair recorded a duet together and also briefly dated.

Especially For You spent four weeks at number two in the UK music charts, before landing in the top spot.

After signing with the same recording company as his former co-star, and working with Stock Aitken Waterman, Jason’s debut album Ten Good Reason also reached number one.

The pair also sang together when they took part in Band Aid’s 1989 version of Do They Know it’s Christmas?.

Back in 2012, following a stint on Strictly Come Dancing, Jason reunited with Kylie for a one-off concert at the O2 Arena.

Hit Factory Live celebrated the success of their former songwriting team Stock Aitken Waterman, the people behind a string of 1980s pop songs.

Jason performed his classic hits Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed With A Kiss at the gig as well as the former couple’s famous duet.

Bananarama, Pepsi & Shirlie, Sinitta and Rick Astley were also in the classic line-up.

Last Sunday, the 52-year-old made his debut on Dancing On Ice.

He took to the ice with his professional partner Alexandra Schauman on the first show of the series, along with six of the 12 contestants.

The father-of-three scored 25 points with his performance to Michael Buble track Moondance.

The remaining contestants will take to the ice this weekend.

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
