Liam Payne has confessed he's broken off his engagement with Maya Henry.

The 27 year old, who recently shocked fans by painting an amazing portrait of Prince Philip following his death, opened up about the split on Steven Bartlett's podcast Diary of a CEO, where the star explained he feels like he needs to "work on himself" as he's discovered he's "not very good at relationships".

Entrepreneur Steven couldn't help but ask about the former One Direction star's love life after he accidentally let slip the words "former partner in lockdown" during their conversation.

"I am indeed [single]," Liam told the Social Chain founder. "I feel like more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people.

"That annoys me. I've just not been very good at relationships. And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point. I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else."

Liam continued: "That's where I got to in my last relationship. I just wasn't giving a very good version of me anymore, that I didn't appreciate and I didn't like being," before admitting: "I can honestly say I feel better out of it.

The For You hitmaker, who recently revealed his hair transformation after getting rid of his long locks, went on: "I didn't feel good doing what I did but it had to happen. Just a corny way to say it was the best for us both. It just feels like that.

"I know what was the problem, I just need to sort myself out. I just hope she's happy."

The singer was said to have proposed to 21 year old Maya in summer 2020, with the news being announced in August as she donned a dazzling £3 million ring.

Model Maya was a fan of Liam’s long before they became a couple as she first met him at a meet and greet after a 1D concert in 2015. However they reportedly reconnected at a Dolce & Gabbana gala dinner in Tremezzo, Lake Como, in 2019.

He later made the relationship Instagram official by sharing a sweet photo of himself laughing and hugging Maya, which he captioned: "Sometimes I don't recognise this happy guy… sure glad you brought him back though.

"This has been the most amazing release week to date! Massive thank you to all my team for helping setting it all up and making it run smooth.
