According to The Sun, Elliot tested positive for coronavirus and the pair were given red wristbands to wear, but cut them off and attempted to flee to the airport.
The pair were then said to have been held at a Covid-19 ward at the St Lucy Hospital in northern Barbados after a staff member at their £300-a-night Sugar Bay resort found their wristbands and called the police.
It has since been claimed Barbados has seen a surge of 200 news cases of the deadly virus in the past two days, with 33 linked to the airport from which the couple are said to have tried to flee.
Zara, who is said to have been distressed over the incident, reportedly tested negative but has now been charged with breaching Covid-19 laws and will appear in court on Wednesday 6 January.
The Love Island star's representatives declined to comment when contacted by OK! online.
Meanwhile Elliott reportedly remains at a quarantine centre, where he will need to isolate for at least ten days and provide two negative tests before he can leave.
Shortly after the reports were released, Zara shared an apology to the people of Barbados and called the incident a “massive mix-up”.

“I have been a guest of this lovely island in excess of 20 years and would never do anything to jeopardise an entire nation that I have nothing but love and respect for and which has treated me as a family.”
