TalkTV host Piers Morgan, 57, excitedly shared the news that he had hit eight million followers on his Twitter account this afternoon. In celebration of the significant milestone, the former Good Morning Britain presenter suggested that Elon Musk, 51, who recently purchased Twitter, should help him celebrate the achievement.

Just after 2PM today, Piers Tweeted out to his large fanbase: “BREAKING: I now have eight million followers.”

He then added: “P.S. How about an interview to celebrate this milestone, @elonmusk?”

Piers wasn’t done bragging either, as a couple of hours later he also announced that the following had increased significantly for his YouTube channel.

“UPDATE: We now have 300k subscribers to our @PiersUncensored YouTube channel,” he wrote.

“If you want to join the party, and view some brilliant content, subscribe for free here.”

Elon completed his $44billion (£37.9billion) takeover of Twitter last Friday, renaming himself as “Chief Twit” on his profile.

The billionaire’s purchase of the site has been controversial, leaving many worrying about the changes he plans to make to the social media platform.

However, Piers has made it clear that he is a fan of the SpaceX founder, regularly defending him online.

On Monday, Piers released a new column entitled “Elon Musk has exposed the woke left as a bunch of illiberal crybabies who despise free speech”.

In his article, the former Britain’s Got Talent judge argued that there had been a “ridiculous overreaction” to Elon taking over Twitter.

He also claimed that the uproar had “exposed a lot of the very issues that the Tesla and SpaceX genius has identified and wants to resolve”.

“Most notable is the resolute refusal of many on the left to even countenance being confronted with contrary opinions without wanting to shame, vilify and cancel those who express them,” he wrote.

Piers continued: “For all its faults, though, I love Twitter. It’s an unparalleled source of news and commentary, and if you like a good argument as much as I do, it’s debate Utopia.

“But there are way too many anonymous bots manipulating political conversation and thus possibly voting preferences, and too many tweets espousing racism, harassment or death threats.

“Musk knows this and wants to fix it. He’s made it clear he doesn’t want his site to be deliberately misused to fix elections or promote violence and hateful bigotry,” Piers added in his latest article for the New York Post.

On Thursday, April 14, Elon Musk announced an offer to buy Twitter for $54.20 a share.

He accepted the deal a couple of weeks later on April 25, but by July 8 he was keen to do a U-turn, claiming he wanted to back out.

However, despite the uncertainty over the last few months, he has become the owner of the site as of October 27.

In the company statement announcing the deal on Monday, Elon wrote: “Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.

“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.

“Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

Piers Morgan Uncensored airs tonight at 8pm on TalkTV.
