Princess Anne Celebrates Her 70th Birthday with Three New Portraits

The queen’s daughter has turned 70.

Princess Anne, also known as The Princess Royal, celebrated her 70th birthday on Saturday. In honor of the momentous occasion, the royal family released three new portraits of the princess.

Taken at the princess’ home of Gatcombe Park in February 2020, all three photos were shot by renowned photographer John Swannell. Swannell’s career has included photographing a plethora of royals, including working with Queen Elizabeth for her official Golden and Diamond Jubilee portraits. He has also worked with Princess Anne on a number of occasions, capturing portraits for her 40th, 50th, and 60th birthdays.

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla marked the special occasion by sharing a slideshow of photos of Princess Anne on Instagram. The Clarence House Instagram account wrote, “Wishing The Princess Royal a very happy 70th Birthday… Let’s take a look back at some family photos through the decades…”

Meanwhile, the royal family’s official Instagram account honored Anne’s birthday by sharing a series of posts about the princess. One of the captions explained, “Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, the only daughter of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, was born on 15th August, 1950.”

The caption continued, “The Princess Royal undertakes a busy schedule of engagements and is involved with over 300 patronages linked to her wide range of interests, including sport, agriculture and animals, science, medicine and healthcare, international development, education, sailing and the military.”
