The prolific tiger breeder, who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 22 years in jail for plotting to kill an animal rights activist and other wildlife violations.
AceShowbiz -“Tiger King” star Joe Exotic is currently in quarantine while behind bars as a precautionary measure amid the Covid-19 crisis after transferring prisons.
Released earlier this month on Netflix, “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” follows the exploits of Joe, a prolific tiger breeder, who ran a popular illegal zoo in Oklahoma.
While the tiger lover was sentenced to 22 years in jail for plotting to kill an animal rights activist and other wildlife violations, Entertainment Tonight reported the star, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, was transferred from a county jail, where he was being held since his sentencing in January, to a federal prison in Fort Worth, Texas.
However, due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, Joe was quarantined as a safety precaution upon his arrival at the prison, which is currently a standard procedure for all inmates checking into any prison due to the global health crisis.
During the 14-day quarantine, Joe is not able to make any telephone calls or check and send emails.
Joe has now launched legal action against the U.S. Department of Interior and the U.S. Federal Wildlife Service, for loss of personal property and nearly two decades of “research and care of 200 generic tigers and cross-breeds for 365 days a year”, amongst other claims.
He is seeking more than $94 million in damages.
