The defensive midfielder is only expected to cost £9.1million to sign on a permanent.

His contract with Toulouse is set to expire next summer.

Emiliano Martinez has sent a farewell message to Arsenal and their fans ahead of his proposed move to Aston Villa.

Speaking on Instagram, he said: “With my family we decided, 11 years at Arsenal and you work 10 years so hard, you leave through the front door today.

“For me I could not be happier to leave through the front door with the Arsenal fan base supporting me and the club.

“I'm very grateful for the 11 years at Arsenal, even if it was a hard road for me and I suffer through my time here.

“But today I'm happy, and I try to show young goalkeepers that hard work pays off.”

Before he added: “I want to become an Arsenal legend, just like Thierry, Wrighty, Adams and Bergkamp, too many to mention.

“My dad is my biggest inspiration and he was captain of his club and country, so it means so much to me to be captain of this special club.

“I want to leave a legacy. This is where I belong. This is my family.”

Arsenal are set for a vital boost to their transfer kitty with the sale of Emiliano Martinez.

With the goalkeeper heading to Aston Villa for £20million, the Gunners will sign up replacement Runar Alex Runarsson for just £1.5m.

The 25-year-old Dijon stopper is understood to have a medical in place ahead of signing a five-year deal.

Such a big profit margin will help in Mikel Arteta’s efforts to land another midfielder with Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar top of his list.

The Gunners are looking to get even more fringe players off their books to fund any deals before the October 5 deadline.

Arsenal are still in talks to sign Dijon goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson in a £1.5million deal to replace Emiliano Martinez, reports DANIEL CUTTS.

The 25-year-old Iceland stopper is understood to have had a medical in place ahead of signing a five-year deal.

He will become their new No2 behind Bernd Leno and is expected to play in cup competitions and the Europa League.

The Gunners saw Runarsson as a cheap option, with Matt Macey set to stay as third-choice goalkeeper.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will then use the £20m from Martinez’s move to Aston Villa in other areas.

BT Sport is set for a £4 price rise from November 1.

If you're an entertainment package holder, the price will also go up by a further £2.

This could add an annual £72 to bills.

Uswitch.com expert Nick Baker said: “A £4 increase to BT’s sports bundle and a £2 hike to its Entertainment package will add £72 a year to bills, placing more pressure on households at a time when many are feeling the pinch.

“Recent rule changes mean that large groups of friends and family can’t gather in pubs and houses, so more people will need their own TV subscription to ensure that they don’t miss out.

“Existing customers may feel doubly hard done by, since the price rise comes as BT is offering new customers heavily discounted TV prices for six months.”

Arsenal have changed their Twitter biography.

The new description says: “If you're reading this, turn your notifications on.”

Michael Oliver will be in charge of Arsenal's game against West Ham on Saturday.

The 35-year-old was referee for Liverpool's thrilling 4-3 win against Leeds last weekend.

Benik Afobe is joining Turkish club Trabzonspor for a season.

The Stoke striker confirmed to SunSport that he has joined the Super Lig club in a move that will be officially announced later.

Former Arsenal and Bournemouth striker Afobe, 27, was left out of Michael O’Neill’s squad for the opening-day draw against Millwall.

And he is set to put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him in the Turkish city of Trabzon until next spring.

Afobe – who Stoke bought from Bournemouth for £12million in the summer of 2018 – was on loan last season at Bristol City.

But after scoring three goals in five games, the striker injured his ACL and did not return to action until after the coronavirus lockdown.

Paul Merson has echoed Garth Crooks by slamming Chelsea for letting Willian join Arsenal.

He told Sky Sports: “I can’t believe Chelsea let Willian go. I know they’ve gone out and get special players, but there’s nothing to say they’re going to hit the ground running.

“In Willian, you’ve got someone there who is ready-made. I like who they’ve signed, but they cost a lot of money, and their wages are probably the same as Willian.

“Frank Lampard has now. He hasn’t got four years. That’s management, I’m not being horrible. Even if Frank wins the league this year, it doesn’t mean he’s going to be there in four years’ time! We know that, and how it changes.

“Who is to say this isn’t going to take time for Chelsea? And I don’t think they’ve got time at the moment.”
