Asda outline their latest safety measures during the pandemic
Earlier this week, many areas of the UK entered a full coronavirus lockdown. Asda and Sainsbury’s have shared advice for shoppers amid the pandemic.
Many Britons have been urged to stay at home as much as possible during the lockdown.
One of the select reasons shoppers are allowed to leave the house is to pick up essential groceries at the supermarket.
Some people started to stockpile essential items during coronavirus lockdowns last year.
The retailers acknowledged that some may feel the need to stockpile due to food shortage fears.

However, supermarket giants have warned customers against buying more than they need.
In a statement, Asda chief executive Roger Burnley explained shoppers should continue to observe social distancing rules.
He also confirmed customers should shop as normal as the supply of food should not be affected.
“As covid restrictions are tightened across the UK to protect our health, we will continue to do all we can to keep colleagues and customers safe in store as we have since the start of the pandemic,” he said.
“Our stores and distribution centres have proved to be highly resilient to the challenges of a national lockdown and we are confident that we can continue to deliver choice and value for customers in the weeks ahead.
“We are asking customers to play their part too by continuing to shop considerately and respecting social distancing when they visit our stores.”
Increased hygiene measures remain in place including sanitising stations and baskets and trolleys will continue to be regularly cleaned.
More colleagues will also be on duty at the front of stores to manage the flow and keep shoppers safe.
As the lockdown comes into place, Sainsbury’s chief executive Simon Roberts has shared advice with shoppers.
A statement said: “With tighter restrictions and national lockdowns back in place, I want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to keep you and our colleagues safe when you shop with us.
“I want to thank all of our colleagues who continue to deal with these challenges that affect their everyday lives while also carrying out a vital role in helping to feed the nation. Thank you too for helping us to keep you and our colleagues safe.”
While some customers stockpiled essential items in the past, Sainsbury’s explained this is not necessary if everyone shops as normal.
The statement confirmed Sainsbury’s stores have a good supply of products and those visiting branches should not buy what they don’t need.
Simon added: “We have good availability of products in our stores and online and we have new stock arriving from our suppliers every day.
“You can still feel confident that you can find what you need at Sainsbury’s and if we all continue to buy just what we need, there will be enough food for everyone.”
Shoppers have also been asked to continue to follow social distancing rules and use safety measures, such as wearing a face covering.
The retailer also explained it had increased delivery slots to 800,000 per week for those shopping online.
