Jennifer Aniston and Jimmy Kimmel set fire to winners envelope at Emmy Awards

Jennifer Aniston and Jimmy Kimmel jokingly went to extreme lengths as they presented the first award at the 72nd annual Emmy Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the awards ceremony this year was held virtually, with stars participating from their home as Kimmel presented from an empty Staples Centre.

But, for the first award, Friends star Jennifer Aniston joined her long-term pal on stage, following social distancing rules to give out the celebrated trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy.

Jimmy, 52, opened the show by joking he was presenting the "pandemmys" donned a pair of yellow gloves to disinfect it.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host then proceeded to set fire to the envelope in order "burn the germs off," before announcing the winner of the category.

Aniston, 51, then exclaimed: "That's a little extreme, Jimmy," before she attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher.

However, the contents of the bin ended up reigniting, Jen then exclaimed "oh shoot" before putting out the blaze.

Fans have since taken to social media to share their thoughts on the incident, with many finding it hilarious.

"[email protected] & the fire extinguisher is how to explain 2020," said one viewer.

While a second joked: "This is a literal dumpster fire and I'm dying of laughter. But they're trying and honestly what more can you ask of someone right now #Emmys."

"Jennifer Aniston not only looks amazing, it sure looks like she knows how to use a fire extinguisher." penned a third.

A fourth tweeted: "I can't even walk in high heels, much less put out a fire while wearing them. Well done, Jennifer Aniston."
