Pizza Express launches DIY kits to make favourites at home during pandemic

Fans of Pizza Express may not be able to visit the restaurant at the moment due to coronavirus restrictions, however they will now be able to make their favourites at home.

That is because the restaurant chain has launched its very own do-it-yourself pizza-making kits.

The move comes after demand for Pizza Express recipes as part of its ‘Homemade Favourites’.

Pizza lovers can purchase the kit for £14. It comes with the ingredients to make two 14-inch Romana pizzas (the brand’s biggest pizza) – including the dough, passata, toppings and herbs.

They will be available in three varieties – Margherita, American Hot or a mixture of both.

The new kits will be available for customers to buy from January 11, for a limited time only.

A branded pizza cutter will also be available on a first come first served basis whilst stocks last.

Zoe Bowley, managing director at PizzaExpress, said: "We are delighted to be launching these brand-new kits, giving our loyal customers the chance to recreate two of our most popular recipes whilst we’re all at home.

"Since launching our Homemade Favourites series last year, it has been wonderful to see so many people recreate their favourite recipes, in the restaurant style that they know and love.

"With these kits we aim to make that even easier, particularly by providing our delicious dough, which has been perfected over 56 years.

"We’ll be delivering the very same ingredients we use in our pizzerias so that the PizzaExpress experience can still be enjoyed wherever you are.”

What the kits include:

Margherita – £14 (makes two 14-inch Romana pizzas)

  • PizzaExpress dough
  • PizzaExpress passata tin
  • Mozzarella
  • Herbs and spices

American Hot – £16 (makes two 14-inch Romana pizzas)

  • PizzaExpress dough
  • PizzaExpress passata tin
  • Mozzarella
  • Pepperoni
  • Hot green Roquito peppers
  • Herbs and spices

Margherita & American Hot – £14 (makes one 14-inch Romana Margherita, and one 14-inch Romana American Hot)

  • PizzaExpress dough
  • PizzaExpress passata tin
  • Mozzarella
  • Pepperoni
  • Hot green Roquito peppers
  • Herbs and spices

The new kits come after the Pizza Express announced back in September it was permanently closing 73 restaurants.

It reported that 89% of its lenders had voted for the Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) restructuring deal.

In a statement, Pizza Express said: "The successful vote unlocks the company's ability to actively address the challenges brought by Covid-19, securing over 9,000 jobs in the UK.

"The directors of Pizza Express thank its creditors for their support during this period and look forward to ongoing partnership as the hospitality industry recovers to growth."
