After months of searching for the perfect pad, it looks like Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have finally found a place to call home. Reports emerged on Aug. 12 that the couple has purchased a multimillion-dollar home in Santa Barbara, California — not too far from some of their celebrity friends such as television stars Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly struggled to find a house
After stepping down from their senior roles within the royal family in March, Prince Harry and Meghan spent a few weeks in Canada before settling in Los Angeles, California. They came to the United States right before the country shut down due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and subsequently moved into an $18 million mansion owned by Tyler Perry.
Throughout their time at the mansion, the couple reportedly tried to find a home that would accommodate them and their growing family, including their 1-year-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. In April, The New York Post reported the Sussexes were looking at houses ranging between $15 million and $20 million in several places around California.

This morning, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie. Their son, Archie, was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal infants for the last 11 years. The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace lined with white satin, was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and first worn by her eldest daughter. It was subsequently worn for generations of Royal christenings, including The Queen, her children and her grandchildren until 2004, when The Queen commissioned this handmade replica, in order for the fragile historic outfit to be preserved, and for the tradition to continue. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have settled on a home after months of searching
Page Six broke the news on Aug. 12 that the Sussexes had purchased a home in Santa Barbara and had been living there for a few weeks.
“Harry and Meghan have been quietly living in their own home in Santa Barbara since early July,” a source told the outlet, noting, “They are not houseguests of Oprah or anyone else, they bought this home themselves. This is where they want to continue their lives after leaving the UK.”
“It has been a very special time for them as a couple and as a family — to have complete privacy for six weeks since they moved in,” the source continued. The insider also mentioned that it is the couple’s first home together and that they intend to live there for a while.
“They intend to put down their roots in this house and the quiet community, which has considerable privacy, the insider continued. “This is where they want to bring Archie up, where they hope he can have as normal a life as possible.”
Details about the price, look, and location are not yet known. But People noted that the couple lives close to Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres, Rob Lowe, and others. Los Angeles is also just a short drive away — about an hour and a half, to be exact — so it should be easy for them to get back and forth should they ever need to.
Though details are limited, it really sounds like the perfect place for them to grow and raise their family, if you ask us. Congratulations on your new home, Harry and Meg!
