Prince Harry and Dax Shepherd had not met before the interview in the US last week.

Harry was promoting his new Apple TV+ series about mental health, The Me You Can’t See, with Oprah Winfrey, which launches next week.

The Armchair Expert podcast, which is co-hosted with fellow actor Monica Padman, focuses on mental health so it was a natural choice for Prince Harry to share his own experiences.

Dax says his podcast aims to unpack “the messiness of being human” and "unpack shortcomings and struggles" to "ultimately lead to growth and betterment".

Since the podcast landed, the 45-year-old took to Twitter to share it, calling Prince Harry an “intellectual, thoughtful human being”.

Dax is candid about his own past mental health struggles and dealings with addiction, encouraging his guests to open up and share their own stories.

The actor has been in recovery from alcoholism since 2006 and broke his own anonymity by regularly sharing that he is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Dax uses his recovery journey as the basis of many of the conversations he has on the show.

Since 2018 guests have included Salma Hayek, Shawn Mendes, Leslie Odom Jr., John Legend, Bill Gates, Matthew McConaughey, Dr Jane Goodall, Malcolm Gladwell and Hillary Clinton.

He is married to The Good Place actress Kristen Bell who he met in 2007.

The couple agreed not to marry until equal marriage rights were passed, at which point Kristen sent Dax a proposal on Twitter.

The couple has two daughters Lincoln, seven, and Belle, five.

The Prince Harry episode of the Armchair Expert podcast is available to listen to now and stream for free on Spotify.
