There’s a few ways to catch the BTS members’ attention while at a concert. You can wear BT21 merch, you can hype up your bias, and you can scream the fan chants. For one attendee, her excitement and cheering caused one of BTS’ rappers, J-Hope, to personally hand her his pouch. Talk about a special souvenir!
Before social distancing, BTS embarked on a world tour
Although this K-pop group’s Map of the Soul world tour has since been postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the BTS members performed at some pretty impressive venues throughout their careers. That includes stadium concerts in London (Wembley Stadium,) Los Angeles (Rose Bowl Stadium,) and Tokyo (Tokyo Dome.)
During 2018, along one tour, the BTS members stopped at a New York venue, the home of the New York Mets, Citi Field. This was their last day in America and for one of the rappers in the group, he wanted to make the day special for a fan.
One fan camped out outside the venue for multiple days
In 2018, during one concert at New York’s Citi Field, a 22-year-old fan from New Jersey camped out outside the venue to get close to the K-pop idols. (There was an estimated 40,000 people attending that October concert, according to Metro.)
“My friends and I arrived at Citi Field on 1 October, five days before the concert,” the fan said during an interview with Metro. “For camping, we took turns with it and went about our lives with school and work. My experience from the time I arrived until concert time was beyond amazing.”
“I’m so grateful to have been able to experience such a historic day. No words can describe the happiness I felt at the concert,” she continued.
J-Hope personally handed the fan his pouch
After camping out for a few days, she explained, she earned a spot pretty close to the stage. Because she was wearing J-Hope’s BT21 character headband, and hyping up the K-pop idol a considerable amount.
At one point, he even got off the stage and personally handed her his bag. In a later video, J-Hope said that he noticed how much she was cheering for him and it was a way to celebrate their last day in America. The fan started crying right after that.
“It felt like a dream. Never in my wildest dreams did I think something like this would happen to me. After I received the pouch, I collapsed into my friend’s arms and cried,” the fan said.
Music by BTS, including the single “Stay Gold” and Map of the Soul: 7, is available for streaming on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
