Sony TV owners are in for a treat over the coming days and weeks as these popular televisions enjoy an all-new look. The update, which brings new features as well as the redesigned appearance, is being rolled out slowly across the world. The update, which brings Android TV-powered sets much closer to the new Google TV software that ships with the latest Chromecast set-top box, also boasts an easier way to discover content.

Once installed, anyone with a compatible telly will see three new tabs: Home, Discover, Apps. These replace the old menu bar and should make it faster and more intuitive to find the shows that interest you the most. Sony says the Discover tab will include new and exciting content with personalised recommendations based on your viewing history across a wide range of streaming services.

There are also recommendations that are based on what you’ve watched in the past and your interests from your Google account, or from trending and popular content in your region. Finally, the tailored suggestions are organised into topics and genres, making it easier to find your next favourite movie or show.

This change is all thanks to Google whose Android TV operating system, which powers a number of Sony’s tellies, receiving a blockbuster makeover earlier this year. It now seems that Sony is ready to unleash the changes into homes across the world with reports surfacing that the customers are receiving the upgrade.

An email sent out by the firm says: “Your Sony Android TV just got a whole lot better. Searching, finding, enjoying – it’s all easier with the Improved Discover tab.”

There’s no word when everyone will be treated to the changes but, if you have a compatible TV then you should see a new look arriving soon.
