BGT bosses ‘want Diversity in Christmas special’ – despite 23k Ofcom complaints

Diversity are reportedly at the top of Britain's Got Talent bosses wish list to appear on the 2020 Christmas special despite their latest performance on the show attracting almost 23,000 complaints to Ofcom.

The routine – which aired last Saturday and featured imagery of George Floyd's death and references to the Black Lives Matter movement – is currently the second most complained about TV moment of the decade.

However, ITV told The Sun Online that they are standing by the dance and leader Ashley Banjo.

A spokesperson told the publication: "Britain's Got Talent has always been an inclusive show, which showcases diversity and supports strong storytelling in all forms and ITV stands behind the decision to broadcast Diversity's performance on BGT.

"Ashley and the group are a great example of the talent, creativity and diversity of modern Britain and their performance was an authentic, heartfelt response to many of the issues and events which have affected society in 2020."

Following the news it has been reported that Diversity, who won the talent show back in 2009, are set to return to the BGT stage for the festive edition of the show.

Some of the most successful acts from the ITV talent show will return for the one-off programme but there will apparently be a major change.

In a shock twist acts will reportedly join forces with another in a bid to impress the studio audience, instead of competing alone.

A source told the publication: "Simon and his team didn’t want to simply do another Champions version so they came up with this twist.

"Some of the biggest acts in BGT history will be coming back to perform with another act, whether it’s a singer, magician or even an animal act.

"The idea is that they will collaborate and create a unique, one-off performance for fans.

“There was talk about creating super-groups — for example, putting together the best dance acts and the best magic acts to compete against one another — but that’s out of the window.

The insider added: "It’s going to be spectacular for fans as they’ll get to see some of the show’s best-ever acts working together for the first time."

Daily Star Online has contacted a representative of BGT for comment.

As well as Diversity, Susan Boyle and magical Marc Spelmann are reportedly all on top of the BGT Christmas Special wish list.

ITV also confirmed that they've been inundated with "many messages of support" from fans who were touched by the performance.

Britain's Got Talent continues on ITV on Saturday night at 8pm
