Coronation Street's Chris Gascoyne leaves soap set just as his wife Caroline arrives to film scenes as new doctor

DESPITE working on the same soap it looks like married couple Chris Gascoyne and wife Caroline Harding don't have the same working hours.

The actor, 52 – who plays Peter Barlow in the ITV show – narrowly missed out on bumping into his other half as she arrived five minutes after he left the Manchester studios.

The cast returned to work back in June and have been put under strict social distancing rules – meaning that they have to limit how many people they have on set at one time.

Little is known about Caroline's latest storyline, though filming on the same day as her real-life husband could indicate they are set to star on-screen together.

Chris looked over the moon to have called it a day and headed home in a plain white t-shirt, blue jeans and some trainers.

The 52-year-old completed his look with a black sports cap, a beaded necklace around his neck and also carried a bike helmet in his hands.

Meanwhile, his wife Caroline donned a similar casual look as she prepared herself for the day ahead at work as Weatherfield's new doctor.

The actress – who has played five different roles in rival ITV soap Emmerdale – opted for some funky dungarees, a frilly white t-shirt underneath and a black blazer over the top.

She completed the look with some black Converse, retro sunglasses and her fiery red hair left completely natural as it billowed in the wind.

The actress' new scenes are not her first in the Manchester soap, after first appearing in 2015 for two episodes.

She played the same role as a doctor, this time diagnosing Hope Stape's cancer.

It is believed she will play a part in Leanne Battersby's latest emotionally charged plotline, which has seen her son Oliver diagnosed with an incurable genetic illness.

The form of mitochondrial disease which Leanne and Steve McDonald's son suffers will eventually take his life.

But her husband first appeared on the cobbles as the former alcoholic in 2000.

He left the role three years later, before returning in 2007 and has been on the soap full-time since 2008.

Caroline is no stranger to British soaps as she's played five different roles in Emmerdale since 2005.

During her time in the village, she's played many other doctors, including Doctor Judd in 2008 and Dr Garret in 2013.

She's also starred in Holby City, Doctors, EastEnders and Casualty.

In real life, Chris and Caroline tied the knot in 2002 and share three children together.

Last week the pair were seen leaving the Coronation Street set together.

Caroline looked ultra trendy in a floor length yellow sun dress, some white Converse and aviator sunglasses.

Her husband opted for a denim shirt and khaki oversized trousers as he strolled close behind her.
