Emmerdale's Tracy Metcalfe has had a whirlwind of a year – just months ago, her dad Frank died in a tragic factory fire, and now she is expecting a surprise baby with her temporary fling Nate Robinson.
As usual in the Yorkshire dales, her pregnancy isn't likely to be smooth sailing, as Nate (Jurell Carter) risks time behind bars after confessing to a crime he didn't commit.
Speaking about the heartache that awaits poor Tracy, actress Amy Amy reveals the truth will come out after a spot of eavesdropping.
Listening to the Dingle family gathering, Tracy learns Nate is willing to go to prison for the hit and run of Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb), in order to save Belle (Eden Taylor Draper) from imprisonment.
Recalling Tracy's reaction to the bombshell, Amy said: "She can't believe her ears. She overhears a Dingle family meeting – she feels quite shocked and disappointed that he would discuss something so big without her."
Amy, who joined the cast in 2014, added Tracy's world will come "crashing down" after the revelation, as she realises she can't trust Nate to stay by her side.
She continued: "She's really hurt and at that stage of pregnancy where the 20 week scan is coming, she feels very vulnerable. All she wants is to build a family unit and safe nest for baby to arrive to. For her, it comes crashing down."
Following the loss of her father, Tracy is desperate for some stability in her life, and the prospect of raising a family with Nate offers just that.
Amy explained: "She lost her dad last year, her sister is away so she literally has no-one. She is desperate to cling on to this family unit with Nate.
"They're not madly in love, they're dealing with it – but the need for the family solidarity is more important. And they are falling for each other through the amazing thing of having baby together."
However, Nate's potential stint behind bars could destroy their relationship before it gets off its feet, as it creates a distance between the parents-to-be.
She said: "They definitely don't know each other, she doesn't know he won't let her down and this just proves it all."
On the other hand, Nate's selflessness and determination to save Belle strikes a chord with Tracy, as she sees another side to the father of her child.
Amy explained: "It shows a side of Nate that Belle is vulnerable, she sees the extent of Belle's illness developing and it's a moment she falls for the goodness in him.
"It's really nice to see that. It's a journey – Tracy is thinking of herself and the baby and she is angry but when she sees how loving he is to his aunt, it's really nice."
Can Tracy and Nate make their relationship last, despite whatever hurdles Emmerdale throws at them?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with a second helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
