'Game of Thrones' Fans May Have Missed the 1 Clue That Revealed Exactly Where Drogon Took Daenerys' Body

Nearly two years after the Game of Thrones series finale aired on HBO, fans are still talking about it. It’s no secret that the final season left many fans unhappy.

The controversial finale included a number of baffling decisions, including Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) death at the hands of Jon Snow (Kit Harington).

But many fans missed the clue that revealed exactly where Drogon took her body.

The ‘Game of Thrones’ series finale was extremely divisive

Fans will recall that the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones featured just six episodes. The series finale – an episode titled “The Iron Throne” – has become one of the most divisive in TV history.

After she took control of the Iron Throne and burned King’s Landing to the ground, Daenerys’ nephew-turned-lover knew he had to stop her. Jon ended up stabbing Daenerys in the heart, which enraged her dragon Drogon.

This led to Drogon using his fiery breath to melt down the Iron Throne and end the War of Five Kings.

While Jon received a satisfactory ending with the Night’s Watch, many fans were not happy with the death of Daenerys. This was especially true because showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss didn’t reveal where her body was taken.

Bran Stark dropped a clue about where the Mother of Dragons’ body was laid to rest

According to Express, fans missed a clue from the Game of Thrones finale that reveals exactly where Drogon took Daenerys’ body. The answer comes from a throwaway line In a conversation between Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Samwell Tarly (John Bradley).

When Bran attends the first meeting of the Small Council to discuss the battle’s fallout near the end of the finale, there is talk about Drogon. As the last known surviving dragon in Westeros, there is a mention that Drogon was last seen “flying east.”

This means that the bloodthirsty queen was most likely buried in Essos, which lies east of Westeros. More specifically, she is believed to be buried at Old Valyria, the capital city that fans never saw in the TV series. This is because a volcanic eruption destroyed the city four centuries before the start of the first season.

Still, the city was an important part of the story because it was the original birthplace of the Targaryen line. Before it’s destruction, nobles and their tamed dragons ruled over Old Valyria. After it was leveled, the Targaryens and their dragons fled to Dragonstone.

While it isn’t an absolute certainty, it makes sense that Daenerys’ final resting place would be near where her ancestors were born.

The Targaryens will be the focus of a new ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel

There won’t be any more seasons of Game of Thrones. But George R.R. Martin is working on the sixth novel in the Song of Ice and Fire saga, The Winds of Winter. It’s possible that he will reveal Daenerys’ exact final resting place in the book, since the HBO series departed so far from his narrative.

For fans who are interested in knowing more about the Targaryen family, they will get the chance in the new Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. It will tell the story of the Dance of the Dragons, which was a brutal civil war that tore Westeros apart more than a century before the original series.

That war is the beginning of the end for the Targaryen dynasty and nearly brings the dragons to extinction. But at the beginning of the conflict, there are a lot of dragons in the skies of Westeros. And House of the Dragon will be bringing all of that to life.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO in 2022. All eight seasons of Game of Thrones are available on HBO Max.
