I’m A Celeb staff ‘refuse to work’ in haunted castle after ‘horrifying noises’

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! crew are reportedly "refusing" to work on parts of the set which they claim could be haunted.

Staff working on the location claim to have seen "shadowy figures" and heard "horrifying noises" around Gwrych Castle once the sun sets, it is reported.

Some members of staff even claim to have seen ghostly figures appearing in windows of the former family residence, reports claim.

The picturesque castle was originally built in the 14th century before being rebuilt around 1812 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh.

Local myths claim the castle is haunted by Winifred Cochrane, Countess of Dundonald who resided at the property between 1894 and 1924.

Legend has it that Winifred patrols her former family home at night time after her husband "destroyed" her life's memory when she died aged 64.

While another local legend suggests that a person saw a "headless monster" in a field surrounding the Gwyrch estate back in 1913.

"People thought they saw a figure at one of the windows a couple of nights ago — and that spot has been pretty much off-limits ever since," a source told The Sun Online.

Another source added: "Several of the crew are completely horror-stricken and don’t want to go up to the castle.

"There are lots of lights on the main sets but there are also many dark areas behind the scenes and some noises are extremely spooky.

"Even staff who don’t believe in that sort of thing are reluctant to go up to some of parts that were supposed to be used for running equipment and camera positions."

Chairman of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, Mark Baker, has previously said: "The countess has been seen quite a lot over the years.

This year, ITV were forced to make alternative plans when the coronavirus pandemic shut the world off, meaning they couldn't film at the regular location on Australia's Gold Coast.

Bosses made the decision to transfer the show to North Wales, with contestants being braced for the infamous British weather.

Daily Star Online has approached ITV for comment.
