The 11th season of NCIS: Los Angeles, as well as its parent series and New Orleans-based spin-off, were sadly put on hold by the outbreak of coronavirus. When the CBS action drama returns, could flirtatious pair Callen and Anna finally take their relationship to the next level?

Viewers have been enthralled by the tentative romance between Senior Field Agent G. Callen (played by Chris O’Donnell) and Russian-American freelancer Anastasia ‘Anna’ Kolcheck (Bar Paly).

Anna was introduced in season six of the franchise’s first spin-off as the estranged daughter of Arkady Kolcheck (Vyto Ruginis) when she was kidnapped in Moscow and rescued by the NCIS team.

Bar Paly has only appeared in 20 episodes of the series so far, but has already made a strong impression on the show’s devoted fans.

The former detective and freelance agent returned for a pivotal episode in the latest season, fuelling speculation she’s set to return in season 12.

Callen reunited with his old flame when she returned to clear her name, as well as warn him about a threat on his life.

Although their affairs have been brief so far, most fans agree there’s definitely something deeper going on beneath the surface.

Now the pair have reconnected, Anna could stick around through season 12 and beyond to take her relationship with Callen to the next level.

Comments from Paly herself have also indicated an extended role for Anna moving forward.

Speaking to Parade.com, she said: “We saw she’s taking a huge risk coming back to L.A. as a fugitive to warn Callen that he might be in danger, and we saw what happened.

“Now, obviously, they’ve reconnected, and they’ve decided to keep things on the down-low and not even tell the team that they’re seeing each other.”

Paly’s extended role in NCIS: Los Angeles’ latest installment have sparked theories of a more public relationship between the two when the spin-off returns.

However, this could prove challenging given Callen’s track record of clamming up about his difficult past.

Production is hoped to continue over the next few months, pending the situation regarding COVID-19.

When O’Donnell and Paly return to set, fans could be treated to some more revealing clues about Callen and Anna’s mysterious romance.

In the meantime, viewers have been calling for the Senior Agent to take initiative and seal the deal with his evasive love interest.

CarterMatt said: “[Callen’s] a wayward soul and he and Anna are kindred spirits in a lot of ways.”

“We know that they can save the day together, but can they build more of a stable life together?

“We do want to see more of this explored, and now that we’re so far into the show, it makes sense to dive even more into this.”

NCIS: Los Angeles is unlikely to get cancelled any time soon, as the three shows make up one of CBS’ most popular franchises.

However, heading into its impressive 12th season, some NCIS fans will start to grow impatient if Callen and Anna don’t start making the moves on each other very soon.

NCIS: Los Angeles season 11 is available to stream on CBS All Access.
