The first trailer for Class Action Park has dropped – and it’s honestly wild.
The HBO Max documentary focuses on New Jersey’s Action Park, aka the world’s most dangerous amusement park, owned by Eugene Mulvihill.
It was open between 1978 and 1996, during which a string of people died on the attractions, and even more were injured.
The clip began with archival footage, with an advert for the facilities showing happy families enjoying slides and swings, telling viewers: ‘There’s nothing in the world like Action Park.’
A voiceover then branded the history a ‘true crime story’ as the camera panned to a terrifying water slide with a loop at the end of it.
‘I don’t know how many people died at Action Park, but it wasn’t just one person,’ a woman familiar with the park said, as a list of injuries people had obtained in the grounds played out.
In the 18 years the park had been open, they revealed people had been ‘electrocuted, decapitated, impaled on the bull,’ while someone ‘fractured their vertebrae’, and one guest had a ‘heart attack’.
Noting the deaths, comedian Chris Gethard quipped: ‘Nobody should ever be the second person to die in a wave pool.
‘Close the f**ing wave pool.’
He does make a good point.
Others revealed that owner Eugene would get around the strict rules many amusement parks are governed by, by simply ‘ignoring’ them.
‘Nobody would give him insurance, so he created his own insurance company and he insured himself,’ a star added.
The documentary drops on HBO Max later this month – but it is not yet clear where UK viewers will be able to watch.
Fans are already living for the trailer, with one comparing the upcoming show to Netflix’s Tiger King.
Taking to Twitter, a viewer said: ‘Had no clue I needed this documentary in my life until now. Can’t wait.’
‘Damn…I’m not sure I’ve heard of this park. I’ll be watching,’ another replied.
While a Twitter user added: ‘Omg move over Tiger King. This looks INSAAAAANE cool.’
Class Action Park is released on HBO Max on August 27.
