Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) has antagonised many of Coronation Street’s finest, but will a scorned resident retaliate with murder?
Geoff has repeatedly evaded justice, and — in spite of almost every resident on the eponymous street having seen him for the abuser that he is — he’s managed to manipulate the situation to his advantage time and again.
As Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King) recuperates in hospital following her heart operation, he walks the cobbles a free man — something which several mainstays resent.
The question is: with plenty of street-dwellers wanting rid of the abuser, will one of them resort to murder?
If so, we could well be looking at a ‘Who Killed Geoff?’ scenario, given that just about every regular on the street despises him for what he’s done to Yasmeen!
But who has what it takes to commit murder?
Alya wants nothing more than to see Geoff behind bars, and her gran Yasmeen a free woman, but she has found herself on the receiving end of Geoff’s abuse time and again — making it harder for her to refrain from lashing out when in his company.
With Yasmeen out of his reach, we know that Geoff turns his attention to Alya, and next week’s episodes see the abuser scheme all the more, as he attempts to ruin Speed Daal — and her in the process.
Therefore, one can’t help but wonder if a heated showdown will ensue?
If so, could Alya lash out and commit murder?
Actress Sair Khan revealed that Geoff does push Alya to breaking point, so its certainly a possibility.
Ryan has been by Alya’s side every step of the way, and believed her claims about Geoff’s coercive abuse since the very beginning.
He’s not afraid of confronting Geoff when the need arises, and he’s no doubt prepared to do so again.
If such an instance did occur — in the event of him discovering the master manipulator’s attempt to ruin Speed Daal, for example — could he see red and resort to violence?
Is Ryan capable of murder? Depends on the situation, and Geoff has something of a reputation when it comes to pushing people’s buttons.
Tim has long wanted to believe Geoff was innocent of the crimes that Yasmeen, Alya and his own wife Sally have accused him of, but as time rolls on, it’s getting harder to deny that his dad’s story simply doesn’t add up.
We’ve already seen him exhibit doubts, and these doubts will be present once again next week, so one can’t help but wonder if he could perhaps work out the truth and explode?
If so, could he perhaps accidentally kill his dad in the process?
When Elaine arrived on the cobbles earlier this year, she didn’t hold back, as she went into detail about the hell that Geoff had put her through.
It was as a result of this hell that she was so determined to ensure Yasmeen didn’t have to go through the same thing, but she was ultimately unable to show her support after Geoff got rid of her.
The way in which he did so remains to be seen — although it did appear as if he’d killed her — but if Elaine is alive, could she perhaps return to the cobbles to seek deadly revenge?
Sally has been determined to expose Geoff for the abuser that he is, and thusrescue Yasmeen in the process.
She has gone to extreme lengths in order to acquire evidence to prove he’s not the man he claims to be, and she’s more or less alienated those closest to her as a result.
The question is: if she continues to snoop, could Geoff perhaps become aggressive and violent towards her?
If so, could Sally perhaps lash out and kill Geoff in the process?
Coronation Street continues Monday August 31 at 7:30pm on ITV.
