The Chase fans urge brainy player to become next chaser as he cements £90k win

Three contestants on The Chase on Tuesday night had viewers’ jaws dropping left and right.

Barclay, Gemma and Jonathan teamed up against Shaun Wallace, AKA The Dark Destroyer, and scooped the show’s seventh biggest jackpot ever, taking home a very nifty £90,000.

But some fans are convinced the impressive performance came down to one player, Barclay, due to his quick thinking and impressive accuracy.

Banker Barclay very much stole the show during the Final Chase, though his teammates also played well.

It's led some to theorise that he could even be talent-spotted to become the next Chaser.

And fans are convinced he led the team to victory, taking to social media to share their impressions of the trio.

"One of the best episodes of #TheChase for a long time!" one penned. "That’s why it’s the best quiz show ever! Cracker that was!"

Someone else couldn’t help but stick a pun in there as they referenced Barclay’s banking background: "Barclay’s banking it!"

"EPIC episode of #TheChase tonight!! We all need a Barclay on our team!" another fan gushed.

A fourth penned: "That was some episode of The Chase tonight, the boy Barclay was superb!"

Someone was even convinced that Barclay should take up the reins as a Chaser himself – and who knows, after Darragh Ennis, AKA The Menace, was talent-spotted from the show last year, it isn’t impossible!

"Barclay would make a good Chaser, just saying," one posted on Twitter.

Fans were still standing by Chaser Shaun despite his epic loss, as one posted: "Awww happy for them to win that much money. But Shaun’s still my fave chaser."

Someone else, however, wasn’t convinced by his performance, as they ranted: "Jesus wept. They didn’t win that, Shaun lost. Utterly hopeless performance from the Chaser. No great shock."

During Monday’s episode of the programme, fans were calling for the quiz to be axed altogether in favour of learning more about one contestant, whose behaviour they found rather strange.

Player Paula introduced herself as a cheesecake maker and admitted she’d had the sack "loads of times".

But things only got stranger from there, as she announced her son wanted to become a Buddhist monk.
