The Masked Singer: Sue Perkins reveals how identity is kept secret
The Masked Singer will crown its 2021 champion on the weekend after a double elimination which saw Sue Perkins unveiled as Dragon and Gabrielle exposed as Harlequin. Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan were stumped with Sue’s character and struggled to identify the comedian. Speaking on Lorraine, Sue explained how she managed to keep her identity hidden.
Sue revealed: “You have a balaclava so no one can see the hair because I’ve got this trademark mess of a hair.
“You have your visor, and this T-shirt that says, ‘Don’t Speak to Me’ and you only ever really see a handful of people.
“You have a designated person who looked after me, you have one of the producers and you have your costume team and the people training your voice.
“Other than that nobody knows who you are. I have no idea who else is in the show. I never met them.”

“Really?” Lorraine asked. “So you don’t even know who’s [on the show]?”
“No,” Sue confirmed. “I waved at Sausage and did a little dance with Badger and jostled in a corridor with Robin.
“But absolutely no idea who they are and I went out in the same night as Gabrielle and it was huge for me to see her she’s absolutely amazing.”
Sue continued: “The whole thing, it feels like magic because you are keeping a secret.
“I’m used to that with Bake Off because we filmed that months in advance. I’m very used to not saying.”
The ITV presenter praised Sue on her amazing singing voice as the comedian credited the costume for helping her lose her inhibitions.
She said: “Well, I don’t think I did. I had some amazing vocal coaches who dragged the voice out of me.
“Having a mask makes a big difference as well because all that inhibition that often clouds a voice just falls away, so you can just give it some proper wellie.”

“It’s just pure fun! I never thought I would be in front of a baying crowd with them saying ‘Take it Off!’” she added.
The comedian shared who she thought had what it takes to win on Saturday.
Sue said: ”[Sausage] the vocals are brilliant. I love the character because the character is so important an element of the show….
“I think the three are very worthy finalists but if I had to pick one I’m going for Sausage!”
“It’s a first, I like to break these things on your show, Lorraine,” Sue added.
Revealing whether she would like to embark on a singing career, she joked: “I wouldn’t expect the album soon, Lorraine, is all I’m going to say.
“What a wonderful experience to have. It was an immediate ‘yes’. I am often quite hesitant about doing entertainment style jobs because it is a big ask.
“This one, I just ran at it. A big cheesy costume, and hopefully entertain the kids and the family. The whole thing was just brilliant.”
The Masked Singer continues on ITV on Saturday at 7pm.
