Game of Thrones may have come to a divisive end last year, but the story of the Seven Kingdoms is set to expand with an upcoming spin-off, House of the Dragon.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s prequel novel Fire & Blood, the upcoming series will chronicle the history of House Targaryen 300 years before the events of the popular fantasy drama.

This week Peaky Blinders star Paddy Considine became the first official member of the cast, set to play a new character to the world of Westeros King Viserys I.

Now, rumours have hit the web suggesting Vikings star Travis Fimmel may soon become the second star announced to be joining House of the Dragon.

Fimmel is tipped to portray Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of Considine’s Viserys.

The casting rumours were reported by Portugese entertainment outlet Torre De Vigilancia and other publications, though neither HBO or series creator Miguel Sapochnik have confirmed.

In Martin’s original novel, Daemon was neglected as a potential heir to the Iron Throne, so forged his own kingdom on the Narrow Sea.

Fans of Martin’s epic series know Daemon as a ruthless yet jealous warrior, a formidable combatant and master of swordplay.

Although the reports were met with plenty of skepticism, fans on a recent Reddit thread were supportive of Fimmel’s potential casting.

One user said: “He’s an amazing actor and he could have the role of any Targaryen character. I like the idea.”

While another added: “His work in Vikings makes him a great choice. Hope to see him represent the dragons.”

The star is certainly no stranger to gruelling medieval combat, as he spent four seasons as the legendary warrior Ragnar Lothbrok on Vikings.

Outside of his breakthrough on the History series, Fimmel also took on the role of military commander Anduin Lothar in fantasy video game adaptation Warcraft.

He was most recently seen in another action-heavy role on HBO as Marcus, an untrustworthy human soldier in the surprise sci-fi hit Raised By Wolves.

Most Thrones fans approved of the casting, though some argued he could be a better fit for the ruthless Aemond ‘One-Eye’ Targaryen.

Additionally, other fans dismissed the rumours and refused to get excited for Fimmel’s potential casting until official announcements are made.

Another fan slammed the rumours: “Yet again, an individual with no proven source claiming to have info.

“Not a single trade has backed up and likely will never back up because it’s total bulls**t.”

Now Paddy Considine has signed on as the show’s lead, fans are keeping their eyes open for further announcements in the run-up to House of the Dragon’s tentative 2022 release date.
