More than 70 workers at an NHS hospital in London have tested positive for coronavirus, it has been revealed.

Tests show that 73 workers at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) have been diagnosed with the virus.

A total of 318 are also said to be self-isolating.

A total of 318 workers at Great Ormond Street are also said to be self-isolating, according to information tweeted out by Ex-WHO director Anthony Costello today

The information was tweeted by Ex-WHO director Anthony Costello today.

Included in the tweet is an internal email, which is said to have been sent to all staff at the hospital. 

It says: ‘We now have eight Covid-19 patients across the hospital. Through our staff testing, we have had 73 confirmed Covid positive staff members of of 181 tested.

‘318 staff members are currently off work because they, or someone in their household, are displaying symptoms.

‘This is similar to yesterday.’ 

It comes as more than 29,000 people in the UK have been confirmed to have Covid-19.

More than 2,300 people have died from the virus in the UK.   

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is an NHS run facility dedicated to children’s healthcare and finding new ways to treat childhood illnesses.  

It is an international centre of excellence in child healthcare and in 2018/19 received 237,908 outpatient visits and 43,218 inpatient visits.

Hospital chiefs have recently limited the number of visitors to the hospital in a bid to limit the spread of coronavirus.  

Visits are limited to one carer a day per family, while siblings of patients are not allowed to visit the hospital. 

In a statement on the hospital’s website said: ‘We are following official guidance from the NHS, UK Government and World Health Organisation.’
