A group of friends found a decomposed body inside a freezer at an abandoned house in South Carolina they claimed was haunted, authorities said.

The group was riding four-wheelers when they drove up to the house in Norway, and decided to go inside Sunday, WACH reported, citing the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Inside, the group found a deep freezer and one of the friends opened it only to make the grisly discovery.

Madison Childers said it was a terrifying experience to find the badly decomposed corpse.

“It was very scary. You couldn’t tell it was a person, because. I think it had been in there for months,” Childers told WACH. “There were maggots everywhere.”

Another witness described the smell as unbearable.

“As soon as the seal broke loose, it was just a horrifying smell,” said witness Corey Antley. “It’s something you won’t forget.”

WSOC-TV reported the abandoned house was burned down two days later.

The authorities are investigating both incidents.
