Majorca and Ibiza beaches forced to close after crowds and 200-person party – and warn it could affect Brits returning

BEACHES in Majorca and Ibiza were forced to close after large crowds and even a 200-person strong party were caught breaching social distancing rules.

The local mayor has warned that if it continues, it could affect the return of Brits to Spain.

Four beaches in Majorca – Illetas, Bugambilia, Oratori and Portals Nous – were closed after a high influx of visitors, while Benirras and Cala Calonet in Ibiza were forced to close as well.

A video from Benirras beach showed a 'drum festival' party of more than 200 people on the beach, with many of the guests standing close to one another in breach of social distancing rules.

The Civil Guard was called in to remove all of the partygoers from the beach, and closed the access points to the area.

Local authorities slammed the actions of the party guests, and has since announced plans to ramp up security and police to patrol the beaches.

However, the mayor of Ibiza village Sant Joan, Antoni Marí Marí, has since signed a decree closing the beach for limited periods, warning that further rule breaking could affect Brits returning to Spain.

He warned of the "devastating effect that this can have on tourism" and that it was "vitally important" to avoid these images of the region, according to local media.

With tourism being the main industry for Ibiza, he added that the "threat it represents to public health" could bring its own risks for both locals and tourists alike.

Vehicles will no longer be able to park at the beach on Sundays between 5pm and 11pm, he warned, to reduce the number of guests there.

Spain hopes to welcome Brits back from next month, depending on the coronavirus situation in the UK and the use of air bridges to allow quarantine-free travel.

The UK is introducing a two-week quarantine for anyone entering the country from next week, which will be reviewed after three weeks, while Spain's 14-day quarantine is in place until the end of June.

The Canary Islands tourism minister said the UK's "health situation needs to improve" before they can be welcomed back to Spain.

Even when Brits do go back, a beach holiday is likely to be very different.

Reserved sunbathing spots, one-way systems, and roped off zones are all likely to be in place when tourists eventually return.

Here are some of the other changes likely to be implemented across Spanish beaches this summer.

Somali mother and son are still living on bench outside library

Somali mother and son are still living on high street bench SIX YEARS after they were evicted from flat despite repeated attempts to rehome them

  • A mother and son have been living on a high street bench in London for years
  • The Somalian pair were evicted from their Battersea flat in February 2014
  • Temporary accommodation had been lined up for them but they did not show up
  • Numerous properties have been offered to them but they have been refused

A mother and son have been living on high-street benches in south London for six years after being evicted from their flat despite repeated attempts by Wandsworth Council to rehouse them.

The Somalian pair used to live in a council flat in Battersea – three miles north of Tooting but after the death of a family member, they were unable to afford the rent and in February 2014, Wandsworth Council evicted them.

Temporary accommodation had been lined up for them, according to the BBC, but the mother, who is believed to be in her 70s did not show up with her son who is in his 30s.

A mother and son have been living on high-street benches in south London for six years after being evicted from their flat in February 2014 by Wandsworth Council

The Somalian mother who is in her 70s sleeps alongside her son who is in his 30s outside a library in Tooting, south London

They ended up living on a bench outside a TK Maxx store on Upper Tooting Road a few hundred metres from the bench where they currently sleep outside a library in Tooting.

In December 2014, they were hospitalised because of the cold weather and the bench they had been living on was removed by the council because it was ‘in their best interests’.

The mother tried to return to the bench after she was was discharged while her son remained in hospital for a while longer, only to find the bench had gone.

According to the Wandsworth Times, the woman was heartbreakingly found huddled up on a chair nearby using an umbrella to shelter her from the rain.

Temporary accommodation had been lined up for them, but the mother, who is believed to be in her 70s did not show up with her son who is in his 30s

In April 2015, the mother and son moved to a bench outside Tooting library and have been there ever since.

It has been reported that the Somali community feel hurt by the case as they have repeatedly offered the mother and son lodging in people’s homes but like the council they have been rebuffed.

It is understood that the council believe it would be cruel and futile to move them on as the mother and son would just find another bench.

A social worker is believed to visit them every two or three weeks and local charities are also involved with them.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MOTHER AND SON WHO HAVE SET UP CAMP OUTSIDE A PUBLIC LIBRARY IN LONDON

10.30am: The mother and her son wake up

10.45am: The son, believed to be in his 20s, urinates in the corner up against the Tooting Library

11am: The pair enjoy breakfast, which typically consists of a honey sandwich

Noon: They drink takeaway coffees and the son listens to his MP3 player

1pm: The mother goes into the library when it opens and the pair then go for a walk

2pm: The son goes and collects their lunch of chicken and chips

2.45pm: The woman goes for a walk and he reads a book under his umbrella

4.20pm: He has an afternoon nap

7pm: They share a coffee

8pm: He sprays himself with deodorant and she applies hand and face cream

9pm: The son collects more chicken for them to eat

10.30pm: The mother falls asleep and he listens to his MP3 player

Midnight: The tarpaulin goes over and they both sleep

This was one of many flats that had been offered to the pair and it had been refurbished

Numerous properties have been offered to the Somalian pair but they have all been turned down.

A statement from Wandsworth Council last October said: ‘Over the last few years Wandsworth Council has offered them four different properties to move into, all very pleasant and fully refurbished, including the original property where they used to live, but they turned all of them down without viewing them.

‘Currently, a property is being held vacant for them and our social work team continues to liaise regularly with the family to try and persuade them to accept it.’

The statement adds that if people refuse offers of help, ‘that is their decision and choice – we cannot force people to accept our help.’

In December 2014, they were hospitalised because of the cold weather and the bench they had been living on was removed from the council because it was ‘in their best interests’

In April 2015, the mother and son moved to a bench outside Tooting library and have been there ever since

It goes on: ‘Wandsworth Council is enormously concerned for their welfare and has done everything it can to try and resolve this issue and get them off the streets.

‘We will continue to work alongside health partners and other agencies, including the police and local charities, as well as the local Somali community, in closely monitoring this situation – including the physical and mental well-being of these two people and their capacity to make decisions.’

Wandsworth Council have been approached by the MailOnline for further comment.

The average of a rough sleeper at death is 44 years for men and 42 years for women according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The ONS estimated that 597 homeless people died in 2017 in England and Wales – mainly on the street.

The untold truth of actor and activist Tyler Merritt

Tyler Merritt created a video in 2018 called “Before You Call the Cops” after a series of incidents where people called the police on Black people for no reason, according to HuffPost. While the video was a huge success when it was first released, it has gained even more traction since Jimmy Kimmel shared the clip in full on his late show recently. Kimmel shared Merritt’s video in response to the nation grieving the death of George Floyd.

Merritt’s video is as powerful as it is poignant and he encouraged compassion by sharing simple details about his life. The actor shared funny facts like how he hates spiders and that he’s done goat yoga. But he also goes deep saying, “I hate that anyone at all might possibly be afraid of me. I’d go around the world and back again if I knew that single act might make your day better.”

In light of this remarkable video and so many other things Merritt has done, here’s everything we know about the actor and activist.

Tyler Merritt prays for Donald Trump

Tyler Merritt, actor, musician, and activist, is known for his work on Outer Banks (2020), The Outsider (2020), and Parenthood (2010), according to his IMDb. But we also know a lot about his personal life through the information he gave on the remarkable video, “Before You Call the Cops.”

Merritt’s parents were raised in the south but they raised him in Las Vegas, a city which still has his heart. He’s a vegetarian and a Christian, spending almost every Sunday morning teaching kids in Sunday school. His father is a veteran. Merritt also said, “I don’t hate our president. I pray for him.”

While Merritt is an actor, he’s also a true activist and founded The Tyler Merritt Project, or the TTM Project on Twitter, a place where people can come together to find inspiration.

In May 2020, Merritt joined Joshua Johnson on MSNBC for an interview where he discussed the Tyler Merritt Project as well as his iconic video. However, Merritt was clear in explaining what he didn’t want to do in the video when he said: “I don’t feel the need in this video to have to humanize myself to anybody. But I was hoping I could save lives.”

Merritt also spoke about the significance of walking in his life, a theme which has come up in a new video he made. Keep reading to hear what he has to say.

Tyler Merritt walks for all the Black people who can't

Tyler Merritt currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, which was the backdrop for a more recent video he made called, “The Playlist.” This newest video was dedicated to “all the Black people ‘who never made it home,'” according to HuffPost.

Merritt shared that walking is a huge part of his everyday life. In the interview with MSNBC, Merritt said, “I walk about 3 miles, 4 miles, everyday in Nashville.” He spoke about acknowledging the risk he takes when he walks outside and puts his headphones and hoodie on. Merritt also said, “I’m aware that Floyd could be me.”

This newest video features Merritt walking while listening to his playlist, including Jay Z, Alanis Morissette, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, and Kanye West. He gives commentary in the background and it is charming and funny until it isn’t. Merritt concludes the video with a chilling end and as hard as it is to watch, it is important. Merritt himself acknowledges that the video is difficult to watch and, according to HuffPost, he says it’s “harder to swallow” than his first video.

What is the K number and why could it be crucial as coronavirus lockdown eases? – The Sun

THE R rate, also known as the reproduction number, has been crucial to the Government's understanding of the threat Covid-19 poses.

But now experts have now revealed that another value is becoming increasingly important amid the coronavirus pandemic: the K number.

⚠️ Read our coronavirus live blog for the latest news & updates

And scientists believe it will be key for fighting a second wave of the disease – as the Government slowly begins easing lockdown measures.

But what exactly is the K value and what does it mean for Covid-19?

What is K?

While the R rate tells us the rate of transmission of coronavirus, the K value looks at how much variation there is in transmission.

It's a statistical value the can help shed light on different transmission rates.

The R rate is an average – for coronavirus at it's height each patient passed the bug on to an average of three other people. Now, after lockdown that number is between 0.7 and 0.9.

But the K value takes into account that not everyone will pass on the virus at the same speed, and not every environment poses a risk to mass spread of the bug.

If the K figure is close to one, as with influenza, a virus will move relatively evenly through the population without variation.

Dr Adam Kucharski, an expert in the dynamics of infectious diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), told The Guardian: “Once K is above about five or ten it tells you most people are generating pretty similar numbers [of secondary cases], you are not getting these super-spreading events.

"Once K is below one, you have got the potential for super-spreading.”

What does it mean for Covid-19?

In the case of Covid-19, the K is believed to be 0.1 to 0.5 per cent, according to Dr Kucharski and his team at LSHTM.

Their findings suggest the majority of secondary transmission may be caused by a very small fraction of individuals.

In other words, this could mean ten per cent of Covid patients pass on 80 per cent of infections – these people may be called 'super spreaders'.

The other 90 per cent of individuals don't actually spread it to many other people – and are behind the remaining 20 per cent of coronavirus transmission.

It's not just the average amount of transmission, it is also the amount of variation

This has huge implications for Governments trying to ease restrictions but avoid a second wave of infections.

“It could be that you have a lot of cases that crop up and don’t infect anybody and you have one case who goes to a particular environment, or particular workplace, and sparks a very large outbreak,” Dr Kucharski told The Times.

R, which the Government is trying to keep below one, was important when the pandemic was at its peak.

However, Dr Kucharski said now "it's not just the average amount of transmission, it is also the amount of variation."

To put it another way, super-spreading matters – a reality highlighted by reports including one from South Korea where one individual is thought to have infected dozens of others by attending church.

How might the relaxation of the lockdown affect K?

Lockdown lowers the risk of a single infectious person spreading the virus to other individuals.

Dr Kucharski said: “Obviously if you start to allow larger gatherings, have larger workplaces, if you have other types of interaction starting, then that does increase the chance that one infection could spread to more people than it would have been able to a couple of weeks ago.

"It could decrease the K, but it could also increase the R."

The effect of easing lockdown measures on K can be seen in other countries in Asia and Europe that have begun to open schools, shops, bars and restaurants.

Instead of widespread infection, they have had flare-ups where individuals spread it to large numbers of people during a single encounter, for example in a South Korean club or French, German or Dutch abattoirs.

Dr Kucharski said if a handful of events generate most of an outbreak, then if you can find a way of identifying where and when those events are happening then that reduces far more of your transmission than if you were just trying to follow up every case as if they were the same.

He added: "The difficulty is you have to predict where these ‘superspreading events’ happen."

Chris Brown and His Many Terrible Car Incidents

Some celebrities just seem to be a magnet for trouble. Sometimes it’s due to the lavish and party lifestyle. Other times, it appears bad luck follows our favorite stars like a rain cloud. When it comes to Chris Brown, he has a series of car-related incidents on his resume. And when some happened without him being present, it makes you wonder if he’s really just that unlucky with vehicles.

Chris Brown is still a fan-favorite, bad boy celebrity

Chris Brown began his celebrity journey as a teen heartthrob. His fan base exploded in size with songs like “Run It!” and “Kiss Kiss.”

He then lost traction with 2009 reports of assault to his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. His violent moment cost him fans and publicity, but he rebounded. He earned a Grammy in 2011 for his F.A.M.E. album. In addition to his Grammy, Brown has hardware from the BET Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Soul Train Music Awards.

He’s sold more than 140 million records globally, making him one of the music industry’s best-selling artists. However, he continues to have run-ins with the law, giving him this celebrity bad boy image.

Plenty of car accidents on his own

RELATED: Chris Brown Gave His Daughter Royalty the Cutest Birthday Gift

When you have the kind of wealth Chris Brown has, you can afford some pricey and exotic cars. And when you drive those performance beasts, you may inadvertently go too fast, or encounter incidents with other drivers.

Brown has had such experiences, including his fair share of fender benders, and others causing more damage. Right after his split with Rihanna, for example, he was in a car crash with his former ex, Karrueche Tran riding with him.

In 2013, he had a more serious accident, caused by pursuing paparazzi. He had been driving to a charity event, when he says, the paparazzi swarmed him aggressively and cut in front of Brown, causing him to wreck his Porsche Turbo S into a wall, according to Top Speed.

Chris Brown was fortunate enough to walk away from this crash. His beautiful Porsche, however, had to be towed and was extensively damaged.

A totaled Lamborghini Aventador

According to The Drive, one of the most bizarre car-related incidents for Chris Brown involved his Lamborghini Aventador and a joyride in Beverly Hills. Los Angeles police later discovered the exotic ride, amidst the crash damage, totaled and completely abandoned.

As it turns out, Brown hadn’t been driving or even present during the incident. He later said his friends had borrowed his sweet ride, and he never realized it had been totaled until he heard from authorities.

Of course, those friends didn’t end up in the headlines about the crash. Chris Brown did, and yet another cringe-worthy incident was added to his public perception resume.

Some trouble brought on himself

RELATED: Why Chris Brown Isn’t Allowed to See His Infant Son Aeko

Chris Brown’s run-ins with the law over occasional car-related incidents certainly make headlines. But no headline put a dent in Brown’s public acceptance quite like the charges he faced with his altercation with then-girlfriend, Rihanna.

According to Billboard, Brown was charged with two felony offenses from the brutal argument. He was 19 back then when he was released on bail for $50,000. His violent reaction to Rihanna, discovering another woman’s text on his phone, continues to haunt him today. Chris Brown was arrested, and those startling images of Rihanna’s facial wounds may loom over his career for years to come.

Chris Brown continues to be successful as an artist and has the hardware to prove it. But his track record with the law, and behind the wheel continue to hinder his overall potential. Fender benders and car incidents happen to everyone. However, Brown seems to be either terribly unlucky or may just still be less than responsible with his pricey collection of cars.

Thomas Middleditch and Wife Mollie Split After He Revealed Open Marriage

Throwing in the towel. Thomas Middleditch and his wife, Mollie Gates, have separated after more than four years of marriage.

Gates, 35, filed for divorce from the Silicon Valley star, 38, citing irreconcilable differences, in court documents obtained by People. The documentation was filed on Thursday, May 28, with the date of separation listed as May 22.

Middleditch made headlines in September 2019 when he revealed that he and the costume designer — whom he married in August 2015 — were active swingers.

“I don’t know how much I can say, because I don’t want my wife to be mad at me,” he said in an interview with Playboy. “Only after I got married was I like, ‘Mollie, I’m sorry, but we have to get nontraditional here.’ To her credit, instead of saying ‘F–k you, I’m out,’ she was like, ‘Let’s figure this out.’”

He added that swinging “saved” their marriage because they both have varied sexual preferences.

“We have different speeds, and we argue over it constantly, but it’s better than feeling unheard and alone and that you have to scurry in the shadows,” Middleditch explained. “By the way, it’s now called being ‘part of the lifestyle.’ The term swinging is old.”

The Emmy nominee noted that the pair had “rules” for who and what they allowed into the bedroom and were always on the same page.

“For anything sexual — whether in terms of the sex act or identity or kink — you want to know where the walls of the box are,” Middleditch said. “Mollie and I have created our own rules, and compared to most of the people we’ve met who do this kind of s–t, our rules are strict. We’re not off on our own; we’re together, a unit.”

Months later, the Canada native shared that he regretted divulging intimate details about his and Gates’ sex life in public.

“To be honest, it’s a thing I wish I could take back. It was poor execution. But I’ve learned to keep things a little more close to the chest. It was a painful [learning experience], to be honest,” Middleditch said on the Daily Beast‘s “The Last Laugh” podcast in April.
