Adam Rickitt reveals he was suicidal for 17 years as his Hollyoaks character Kyle Kelly prepares to take his own life – The Sun

ADAM Rickitt revealed on Loose Women today that he was suicidal for 17 years as his Hollyoaks character Kyle Kelly prepares to take his own life.

The Channel 4 soap announced the heartbreaking male suicide storyline yesterday and it prompted the actor, 42, to share his battle with mental health that began in his teenage years.

He said: "It's quite out there in the public forum that I had issues with an eating disorder but what I don't think I have spoken about is my issues prior to that.

"For 17 years of my life I was essentially suicidal

"It comes in peaks and waves but a great proportion of my adult life I did spend suicidal."

Adam told the Loose Women panel that his problems with mental health started age 13 and it was a long road to his recovery aged 30.

He went on: "I got to 28 years old. I got a chance to go to New Zealand for work and it was meant to be three months but it turned out to be five years.

"It was the first time in 15 years that I thought there was a chance of me being happy or normal.

"I made a conscious decision that I was going to do something about it.

"I was desperate to go and see someone and wave a magic wand and I would be cured, but that's not how it works."

Hollyoaks viewers know Kyle – who is played by Adam – has been suffering with depression for years and he will tragically take his own life in the lead up to his wedding to Nancy Osbourne.

Hollyoaks will not play out Kyle’s death on screen, but the aftermath of his loss will be explored as Kyle’s friends and family come to terms with the news and the effect the bereavement has on their children and Nancy.

Adam added: “When I first heard about the storyline, I was excited as an actor to be able to portray such a dramatic journey, and pride that the team had entrusted me to do it.

"There was also a sense of personal fear. Like all too many I had to walk a similar path in my lifetime and the idea of revisiting that, even in the world of fiction, was slightly daunting.

"In truth though it became an incredibly empowering experience. The sensitivity and heart that the writers put into the story really shone through, and at a time like now, more than ever, I think we need to be highlighting just this sort of issue.

"As sad as I am to say goodbye to Kyle, I have loved being a part of Hollyoaks. It's been a fantastic show to work on.

"To be able to leave telling a story that is so important and so challenging is more than I could ever have asked for, and like me, I hope viewers will find strength in its telling."

The Hollyoaks cast and producers visited and worked closely with James' Place, a unique centre for emergency male mental health, based in Liverpool, to guide the process for this vital storyline.

Hollyoaks also planned to film a help and support video at the centre, which had to be postponed due to current circumstances. The centre continues to operate and provide support online, via their website –

Prosecutor says he won’t ‘rush’ to charge cops involved in George Floyd death

A Minnesota prosecutor on Thursday night said there is evidence that does not support criminal charges against the white cop who kneeled on George Floyd before the black man’s death — but later backtracked.

Along with the since-tempered revelation, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said he will not “rush” to charging the four officers involved in Floyd’s Monday arrest because “justice cannot be rushed.”

Freeman had the called the video of Floyd being detained by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin “graphic, and horrific, and terrible.”

“But my job, in the end is to prove that he violated a criminal statute, and there is other evidence that does not support a criminal charge,” the prosecutor told reporters at a news conference.

Shortly after, Freeman’s office clarified his statement.

“County Attorney Freeman was saying that it is critical to review all the evidence because at the time of trial, invariably, all that information will be used,” the office said.

“Evidence not favorable to our case needs to be carefully examined to understand the full picture of what actually happened.”

Freeman did not disclose what evidence his office has uncovered that may be unfavorable to them.

The prosecutor cited the case of Freddie Gray, a black man from Baltimore who died in police custody in 2015, as reason to avoid rushing to justice.

All the officers charged in the Gray case were either acquitted or had their charges dropped.

The four officers involved in Flody’s arrest have so far all been fired.

Brian May says he 'feels like he died' after heart attack

Brian May ‘feels like he died and went to his own funeral’ as he discusses aftermath of his heart attack

  • Brian, 72, was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at home
  • The Queen guitarist had been hospitalised earlier in the month for a gardening injury that left him with a ripped muscle and trapped nerve
  • Brian revealed that in the midst of recovering from his injury he suffered a heart attack
  • The father-of-three was ‘very near death’ during the ordeal and had stents fitted to clear his three blocked arteries
  • The rocker has made a full recovery but is still using crutches to help him get around as a result of his muscle injury

Brian May has admitted he felt like he had died and attended his own funeral as he discussed the aftermath of his heart attack.

The Queen guitarist, 72, returned to social media on Tuesday to thank fans for their support and well-wishes, as he likened the messages to reading funeral tributes.

Confessing he was ‘battling things’ as he continues to recover from his heart attack and unrelated muscle injuries, the rocker admitted he was feeling ‘overwhelmed’.

Brian said in an Instagram video: ‘I’m overwhelmed and really, more than touched by the torrent of love and support that’s come back at me after all the coverage in the press, I really didn’t expect all that.

‘As you can see I’m ok… my email box and everything else is so full of incredible messages, I will never ever be able to thank you all individually, so let me please at least thank you all here.

‘This is going to sound really strange but I sort of feel like I died and yet I was able to come to the funeral and see all the tributes.’

Recovering: The Queen guitarist was recovering from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve as a result of a gardening injury, when he suffered a heart attack amid his recovery

Brian went on: ‘I often think that at funerals, all these people come and say these wonderful things about the person that’s gone but he or she cant hear it.

I’m lucky, I got to hear it – so my life is complete. Yeah I’m sorry if that sounds weird, but I can’t compare it with anything.’

The musician went on to state he is ‘taking it easy and doing physio’ as he recovers, concluding: ‘But thank you thank you thank you, that’s all I can say, for the fantastic amount of love you’ve given me. It’s really appreciated, I will never forget it.’

Shocking: The video comes after Brian made the shock admission on Monday that he was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack

The video comes after Brian made the shock admission on Monday that he was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack.

The guitarist was recovering from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve as a result of a gardening injury, when he suffered a heart attack amid his recovery.

The rocker released an Instagram video in which he explained the shocking series of events that lead to his hospitalisation.

Brian, who has now made a full recovery, began the clip by stating: ‘I told you I had a ripped muscle and that was the way I was diagnosed and we thought it was like a bizarre gardening accident… I kind of forgot anything to do with the bum people find amusing… but anyway, it turned out to be not really the case.’

He went on to reveal that after being diagnosed with a rip in his gluteus maximus, he was confused to find that a week later he was still in pain.

He explained: ‘I mean real agony. I wanted to jump at some points. I could not believe the pain. And people are saying “that’s not like a ripped muscle”, so eventually I had another MRI.’

Hospitalised: The rocker, 72, released an Instagram video on Monday, in which he explained the shocking series of events that lead to his hospitalisation

The results showed that Brian had a compressed sciatic nerve, which he noted ‘felt like someone had been putting a screwdriver in my back the entire time. It was excruciating….’

However, in the middle of receiving treatment for his trapped nerve and ripped muscle, Brian suffered another medical emergency.

He explained: ‘So that’s one side of the story, and I’m a lot better now. I’m free of that terrible pain that actually destroys your mind…

‘But the rest of the story is a little more bizarre. I was shocked, I thought I was a healthy guy. Everyone says I’ve got a great blood pressure and I keep fit, I bike, good diet.

‘I had – in the middle of the whole saga of the painful backside – I had a small heart attack. I say small, it’s not something that did me any harm. It was about 40 minutes of pain in the chest and tightness. It’s that feeling in the arms and sweating.

‘And you kind of know, you’ve heard things and you think “this is a heart attack”. To cut a long story short, my wonderful doctor drove me to the hospital himself and I had an angiogram [an X-ray used to examine blood vessels.]’

Candid: Brian detailed his shock saga in a lengthy Instagram video shared on Monday

Brian went on to reveal that doctors discovered he had three arteries congested and he was in danger of blocking the supply of blood to his heart.

Doctors suggested that he undergo open heart surgery, but Brian opted for the alternative which was to have three stents put inside his heart.

Still recovering from his ripped muscle and nerve pain made the operation even worse, however, with Brian saying that he ‘ripped out his tubes’ in hospital after being left in such agony.

Following the operation, Brian is recovering well, revealing that he is in no pain from the surgery, stating: ‘I walked out with a heart that is very strong now. So I think I’m in good shape for some time to come…. And if I’m not then I’ll have another  angiogram.’

He continued: ‘Anyway, I didn’t die, I came out, and I would have been full of beans if it weren’t for the leg.

‘I’ve only just got to the point where the leg is liveable.’

Shocking: Brian went on to reveal that doctors discovered he had three arteries congested and he was in danger of blocking the supply of blood to his heart

Brian went on to encourage his followers to look after their hearts and get them checked as they approach their ‘autumn years’ of life.

He concluded: ‘I’m very grateful that I now have a life to lead again. I was very near death because of this, but the pain that I had was from something very different. It’s funny how these things work.

‘But I’m good. I’m here. And I’m ready to rock. Please don’t send me sympathies, because I’m good. God bless.’

Brian went on to state that he believes everyone over the age of 60 should have an angiogram to warn them of their risks of having a heart attack, noting that he himself ‘had no idea’ that he was in danger.

Couple: Brian, who is married to former EastEnders star Anita Dobson, 71, previously said the nerve pain caused by his gardening injury ‘paralysed my brain’

Alongside the video, Brian penned: ‘My medical adventures!

‘Hmm … Sheer Heart Attack eh ? Well, I think I always worried a little bit about that album title. I wondered if it might upset some people who had actually had heart attacks.

‘I’m actually quite relieved now that I’m in that club – and I don’t find it upsetting at all ! Take. care folks.’

Figures suggest there are 200,000 hospital visits because of heart attacks in the UK each year, while there are around 800,000 annually in the US.

A heart attack, known medically as a myocardial infarction, occurs when the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked.

Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, and feeling weak and anxious.

Heart attacks are commonly caused by coronary heart disease, which can be brought on by smoking, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Treatment is usually medication to dissolve blots clots or surgery to remove the blockage.

Reduce your risk by not smoking, exercising regularly and drinking in moderation.

Heart attacks are different to a cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart suddenly stops pumping blood around the body, usually due to a problem with electrical signals in the organ.

He continued: ‘And … why did those discs in my spine get so squished? Well I think 50 years of running around with a guitar strap over my left shoulder holding a heavy guitar might have something to do with it ! But it probably WAS all worth it!’ (sic)

Brian, who is married to former EastEnders star Anita Dobson, 71, previously said the nerve pain caused by his gardening injury ‘paralysed my brain’. He said: ‘I felt it took over my personality… I was in a nightmare world.’

Sharing a video update on Saturday, the rocker told his 2.4m Instagram followers:

’I’ve got some great help with pain management and rehabilitation. Today I can sit and potter slowly around holding on to things with almost no pain. It’s incredible what real pain does to you.’

‘I’ve always been a bit of a big shot about my tolerance to pain levels – like not getting Novocaine jabs at the dentist or whatever – But this nerve pain which came to inhabit my body about three weeks ago – no, it wasn’t a glute thing after all – has paralysed my brain.’

‘I felt it took over my personality. I woke up feeling that somehow the pain WAS me, and I was struggling to get back in my body. And I did give in and take the heavy duty painkillers, and in the end I was in a nightmare world.’

‘The only thing to do was kick it all and come out. But I could only do that because I got some great physio help and some osteopathy. I’ll tell you the whole story sometime, but for now … happy weekend.’

Earlier this month Brian broke the news on Instagram that he was in hospital sharing a selfie of him in a surgical mask.

He wrote: ‘I managed to rip my gluteus maximus to shreds in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening.

‘So suddenly I find myself in a hospital getting scanned to find out exactly how much I’ve damaged myself.

‘Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while… or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless.’

The muscle, the largest in the body, controls hip and thigh movement.

Brian told fans he needs to ‘go dark’ to get ‘complete rest’ and asked for ‘healing silence’ over ‘sympathy’.

RHONJ’s Joe Giudice says he wouldn’t be ‘afraid’ to fight Mike Tyson in celebrity boxing match – The Sun

REAL Housewives of New Jersey husband Joe Giudice believes he can take on Mike Tyson and said he wouldn't be 'afraid' to fight him in a boxing match.

The disgraced RHONJ star had recently signed a celebrity boxing contract after losing weight.

In an interview with Too Fab, the 48-year-old hunk revealed he's not afraid to take anyone on in the ring, even the undisputed world heavyweight champion, Mike, 53.

Joe said: "Listen, I'll go for a few rounds with anybody. It doesn't matter to me. I'm not afraid of anybody. I don't care who it is … I'll get in the ring with anybody.

"I mean, if [Mike's] willing to go three rounds, I mean, why not? It would be fun, you know what I mean, it'd definitely be fun."

Despite Joe admitting it might be difficult to beat Mike, he wouldn't back down from the challenge.

He admitted: "I mean, listen, he's tough and that's his business.

"You know what I mean? Boxing is this business. That's his business. Whatever, it doesn't make a difference to me.

"I don't care who I really have to box. You know what I mean? It is what it is."

But how does Joe know he can possibly take on the boxing legend? He proved he could take on some hulk-like men while he was in prison from 2016-2019.

As he hopes to get a chance to fight Mike, Joe has been training to fight in the fall after training since arriving to Italy.

Celebrity Boxing promoter Damon Feldman told TMZ Joe's set for a fight on October 24th in the Bahamas.

There's no word yet on his opponent, but Damon said Joe is ready to take on anyone.

His paycheck will be based on the number of Pay-per-view purchases, and the match will be three 1 minute, 30-second rounds, according to TMZ.

Joe's often seen on social media working out and practicing martial arts, following losing weight when he served time.

He recently shared a video of himself doing push-ups while doing the splits to "motivate" himself in lockdown.

He told fans: "Just another day quarantined, let's make the best of it.

Joe's been keeping busy after his final legal appeal to return to the United States was denied.

He was deported to Italy last year after serving 41 months in jail for wire and bankruptcy fraud.

Joe said following the appeal failed: "As I proceeded with caution, hoping to win the judge’s sympathy, I was hoping to come home to my girls.

"Today, According to U.S immigration I was told I will never step foot in America again."

"My appeal was denied."

Joe was born in Lombardy and though he emigrated to the US as a child, he never obtained American citizenship.

After he and ex-wife Teresa both spent time behind bars for fraud in 2014, Joe was transferred to an ICE facility and then deported.

Joe and Teresa's children, Gia, Gabriella, Milania and Audriana, live in America with their mother.

MIKE TYSON has revealed he was let off by police after being stooped while driving as "high as a mother******".

Iron Mike, 53, who has announced plans to get back in the ring after a 14-year hiatus, made the stunning admission on the latest edition of his Hotboxin podcast.

The Baddest Man on the Planet runs his own cannabis farm and is said to earn £500,000 a year from the business.

Tyson, who announced plans to return to boxing last month, revealed he was under the influence of weed AND alcohol when he was pulled over by cops in California.

He said: "I remember one day I got pulled over, I’m drunk, I’m high.

“So they pulled me over and they said, ‘Pull up on the kerb’.

"“So I pull up, I go on the kerb… boom boom! Ohhhhhhhhhh s***!

“The cop turns and looks and he goes, ‘Oh s*** Mike Tyson! F****** hell!’

“Oh s***! I’m high as a motherf*****.”

Tyson is widely claimed to be one of the greatest fighters of all time.

The boxer, from New York, was just 20 when he lifted the world heavyweight title and went on to dominate boxing.

Joe Biden Told Charlamagne He "Ain't Black" If He's Having Trouble Deciding Whether To Vote For Him Or Trump

View this video on YouTube

Joe Biden ended his Friday morning interview on The Breakfast Club by telling host Charlamagne Tha God “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump — then you ain’t black!”

“It don’t have nothing to do with Trump. It has to do with the fact that I want something for my community,” Charlamagne told Biden while the former vice president told him to look at his record on extending the Voting Rights Act and his endorsements from the NAACP.

The exchange came during an interview focused on Biden’s proposals for black Americans in his presidential campaign, with Biden frequently reminiscing about the Democratic primary. “Remember when they said Biden can’t win the primaries?” Biden asked.

“I kicked everybody’s as-,” Biden said before stopping himself short. “Excuse me, I won overwhelmingly. I told you, when I got to South Carolina, I won every single county. I won a larger share of the black vote than anybody has, including Barack.”

Charlamagne also asked Biden why he wasn’t willing to apologize for the 1994 crime bill and other legislation’s effects on black Americans. Charlamagne pointed to Hillary Clinton saying in an interview on the show during the 2016 presidential election cycle that, as he put it, Democrats had “made a lot of mistakes” with the 1994 bill.

“She was wrong,” Biden said. “What happened was, it wasn’t the crime bill, it was the drug legislation. It was the institution of mandatory minimums.”

Charlamagne also asked if Biden was going to choose a black woman to be his pick for vice president. Biden said that he wasn’t going to acknowledge any particular person that his campaign was vetting but confirmed that they were considering “multiple black women” for the position.

Biden has already faced some backlash for the interview after it was posted on social media platforms on Friday morning.

“How a white man gonna tell black people they not black,” one Twitter user replied to a tweet from The Breakfast Club’s Twitter account. The Trump campaign tweeted out a photo of Kanye West in a Trump campaign hat.

The Biden campaign didn’t immediately respond for comment.

NFL player claims he was sexually assaulted on United Airlines flight

An NFL player from New Jersey was repeatedly harassed and groped by a drug-addled female passenger aboard a United Airlines flight, according to a new lawsuit that claims the crew did nothing to stop the very inappropriate use of hands.

The unnamed athlete, John Doe 1, said his ordeal began shortly after the red-eye flight departed Los Angeles for Newark Liberty International Airport on Feb. 10.

He said the woman, who also is not identified, appeared “disheveled and unbalanced” when she boarded the flight and took her window seat next to him in the economy plus section.

She allegedly soon began sexually assaulting the pro-footballer, who was seated in the middle seat, by “massaging” his knees and thighs, says the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday.

A second man seated in the same row, who is also suing as John Doe 2, complained to crew members — but they allegedly did nothing to stop the woman’s behavior, the suit claims.

The complaint describes both John Does as African Americans — the professional athlete living in Hazlet and the second man residing in Philadelphia. It’s unclear if they knew each other prior to the flight.

“Fearful of the perception of being a male victim and the racial stigma of being a young African American male, John Doe 1 patiently pleaded for assailant to stop and removed her hand,” the suit says.

But the alleged sexual assault of John Doe 1 only “intensified,” with the woman “grabbing and groping his quads and then stroking her hand across his lap towards the inside of his leg near his genitals,” the complaint says.

At one point, she also allegedly grabbed his penis and ripped off the face mask he was wearing, presumably to ward off the coronavirus, the lawsuit states.

When he got up to complain to a flight attendant, the belligerent woman turned her sights on John Doe 2, grabbing his leg and “groin area.”

She was eventually removed to another row — after allegedly admitting she was drinking and had popped pills.

Both men said 25 minutes into the flight, they witnessed the woman downing prescription pills, causing her to become “intoxicated,” according to the suit.

The victims were given $150 vouchers for their troubles.

The men claim the abuse could’ve been prevented but crew members did nothing when they were made aware it was happening.

A rep for United didn’t immediately return a message.

The lawsuit was first reported by Bleacher Report.

President Trump admits he is taking hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus prevention

Trump admits he’s taking hydroxychloroquine amid coronavirus pandemic

President Trump says people should be allowed to take hydroxychloroquine because it’s been around for years and is used to treat other things.

President Trump said during a meeting at the White House on Monday that he has started taking hydroxychloroquine, an anti-malaria drug that he has repeatedly touted as a potentially effective COVID-19 treatment, as a preventative for the coronavirus.

"A couple of weeks ago I started taking [hydroxychloroquine]” Trump told reporters. "I hope to not be able to take it soon because you know I hope they come up with some answer, but I think people should be allowed to.”

Trump immediately shut down claims that he has the virus, saying he is tested every few days and the results have been negative.

"Totally negative, no symptoms, no nothing,” Trump said.

The president says that he's taken the drug once a day for a week and a half in combination with zinc and an initial dose of azithromycin, or Z-Pak, after a discussion with the White House doctor. He doesn't know for sure if the drug is effective, but he argued there's no harm in giving it a try.

"It seems to have an impact and maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. But if it doesn’t you’re not going to get sick or die," Trump said. "What do you have to lose?”

White House staffers, including a member of Vice President Mike Pence's staff, tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

Trump has denied claims that he has been promoting the drug for his own personal gain, saying it's just about making Americans "feel good", and that even health care workers on the front lines have been using it.

"I want the people of this nation to feel good," Trump said. "I don’t want them being sick and there’s a very good chance that this has an impact, especially early on. But you look at frontline workers, you look at doctors and nurses, at lot of them are taking it as a preventative."

President Donald Trump tells reporters that he is taking zinc and hydroxychloroquine during a meeting with restaurant industry executives about the coronavirus response, in the State Dining Room of the White House, Monday, May 18, 2020, in Washington

Trump's decision to start taking hydroxychloroquine came after he heard "very good things" after receiving a letter from a doctor in New York who has seen promise in the drug.

"He said out of hundreds of people that he’s treated he hasn’t lost one, and he just wanted me to know about it” Trump said.

Trump’s comments come weeks after the Food and Drug Administration issued a warning about the drug, saying it became aware of reports of serious heart rhythm problems in patients with the virus who were treated with the malaria drug, often in combination with antibiotic azithromycin.

Medical staff shows on February 26, 2020 at the IHU Mediterranee Infection Institute in Marseille, packets of a Nivaquine, tablets containing chloroquine and Plaqueril, tablets containing hydroxychloroquine, drugs that has shown signs of effectivenes

There are more than 1.5 million confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 90,000 deaths in the United States, according to the latest update from the Johns Hopkins University.

Evander Holyfield confirms he’s willing to fight Mike Tyson in trilogy bout but would prefer Riddick Bowe – The Sun

EVANDER HOLYFIELD has attempted to lure fellow boxing legend Mike Tyson out of retirement for a trilogy bout.

The pair had a famous rivalry back in their prime that was exposed in the second of their two bouts in 1997.

Tyson, 53, sensationally bit off the ear of Holyfield that earned him a disqualification.

They have since put their rivalries aside to become friends but it hasn't prevented Holyfield from calling him out for a scrap.

It comes off the back of comments made by Tyson that he is willing to dust off the gloves and fight in an exhibition match to raise money for charity.

When quizzed on whether a rematch with Tyson would interest him, the 57-year-old told TMZ: "It wouldn't bother me to do so.

"Even though I'm four years older than him, it wouldn't be a problem."

Holyfield added that their managers have been talking although he would prefer to take on former fighter Riddick Bowe.

He said: "My manager, they’ve been talking and all that.

"But the fact is that with me personally, I think for me to ask, the only person that I would actually really ask is Riddick Bowe."

Tyson has had fans excited of a potential comeback having shown off his pace and power in a number of lockdown workout videos.

The former heavyweight world champ last fought in 2005 in a defeat against Kevin McBride.

But Holyfield believes he still has it in the tank to make it a hat-trick of wins against Iron Mike.

He said: "I'm thinking just take one fight at a time.

"If it comes about, as long as it works for both of us.

"The thing is, I look at it like, I wouldn’t ask him [Tyson] does he want to do it, he would have to ask me, because it’s just like being a bully, you beat the guy twice and you know that you can.

“If it’s a charity thing it’ll be more of this is what he wants to do.

"I’m four years older than Mike, I know that he is very quick, but I’m quick too.

“But I realise I can’t wait on him, because I know if I wait on him he may get me.

“The art of the game is, if I was going to do anything with anybody, we're going to talk about this because my whole thing is I don’t look at this like it’s going to be a one handed fight, this is a charity event and we’ll get the decision.

“We're doing this, raising money for a charity and then they pay us so we have something for ourselves, but the thing is, you know what you’re doing it for.

“Because if it wasn’t for a charity – I wouldn’t do it."
